In September 2023, if she were alive, Amy Winehouse would have turned 40, but the film authorized by her family, Back to Black, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, is scheduled to be released in 2024. After her sudden death, aged 27 in 2011, there were several attempts to bring her brief story to the screen, much to the displeasure of the star’s relatives.

Recording began in January 2023 in London, which ensures that the places where Amy has been will be in Back in Black. Places like Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, where the singer made her professional debut. The team was also seen in Camden Town and in Primrose Hill, where she lived. After all, the script by Matt Greenhalgh will show “the vibrant years of Amy Winehouse”, from childhood to her troubled relationship with fame and ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil.
Sam is an excellent director of biopics, her film about John Lennon is one of the rocker’s best. In the cast, we will have Marisa Abela (from the Industry series) as Amy and Jack O’Connell (Lady Chatterley’s Lover) as Blake. Fans are hoping we’ll see a trailer by the end of the year. Ultra curious!
