The Witches’ Universe as Seen by Anne Rice

Writer Anne Rice, who died aged 80 in 2021 after a stroke, popularized and ‘modernized’ stories of witches and vampires with novels centered on the fantasy universe. The first – and most successful – was Interview with the Vampire, published in 1976 and turned into a movie in 1994 (with Tom Cruise as Lestat and Brad Pitt as Louis) and a series, in 2022, with Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson. Another great success of her bibliography was the witch trilogy, the Mayfair Witches which is now a Lionsgate Plus series starring Alexandra Daddario.

The series borders on tacky and has overacting, but caters to those who enjoy the theme. It’s set in the writer’s hometown of New Orleans and navigates a backdrop of practitioners of the occult, including – of course – witchcraft and demons. In the case here, we follow a young neurosurgeon, Rowan (Alexandra Daddario), who discovers that she is the unlikely heiress of a family of witches. As she grapples with her newfound powers and explores her family tree, she faces a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.

The first season comes straight from the first book in the saga, The Witching Hour, and its ‘familiar’ discovery. Demands a lack of an option to face, I have to leave the warning!
