Ax resumes play in Billions final season

And not exactly a surprise, Bobby “Ax” Axelrod’s (Damian Lewis) departure was temporary. In the home stretch of Billions, he returns for half of the final season, and the trailer shows that he hasn’t lost pace, venom, or wit.

In the cat and mouse game that will conclude in the eighth season, it was difficult to choose a winner. Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) strikes me as the main ‘engaged’ because his marriage to Wendy (Maggie Siff) went from bad to divorce, with her finally assuming that her liaison with Bobby was never purely professional (even without apparent sex). In the fifth season, he checkmated his rival, who fled to Switzerland, passing everything on to Mike Prince (Corey Stoll). His absence was greatly felt in the sixth part of the story, and his return trailer assumes that without Ax, the game is lukewarm.

“You can’t escape your enemies because I’m back now,” he warns in the trailer. “And I am wide awake.”

Chuck doesn’t get out of the line of “holding the rich, powerful, and criminals accountable for their actions, no matter the cost”, not least because at this point there is little left for HIM to lose. Mike Prince announces his candidacy for the presidency of the United States, and Mike “Wags” Wagner (David Costabile) celebrates his friend’s return to New York. Those who follow Billions know that no alliance resists the game and they promise to once again turn them around with a betrayal of “epic proportions”.

We left our friends in the sixth season in almost a draw, after all, both Mike Prince and Chuck Rhoades believed they have won, which is never real, so much so that Chuck was right in the ambition of the new rival but he is campaigning in the seventh season. The most interesting thing is to see the return of Grigor Andolov (John Malkovich) who hates everyone and a little more in history.

In the breakdown of the trailer, we see Wendy walking through NY and Chuck returning from prison to work, to applause, with Bobby’s off-screen talking about determination. Wags, Wendy, and Taylor are down on a jet and it’s the spirit of the whole team. Wendy enters the office, watched by a suspicious but arrogant Mike Prince.

Off-screen, Bobby announces that he’s back and more awake than ever. He’s out on his jet at night, waiting to meet someone. Chuck reiterates his speech about trying to end corruption on Wall Street (and we see his trial where he is freed). Mike Prince is campaigning for the Presidency of the United States, Wendy and Taylor look at each other suspiciously, and soon we see the psychologist talking to Wags that the consequences will now be greater until she finally assumes that she is going to ask Bobby for help. In a medieval castle, she, Taylor, and Wags happily find him again, joking that he was just on vacation.

Back in the US, Mike and his ex-wife kiss and we hear Chuck say that everything is more important than before. Mike celebrates and we see Chuck at an airport at night with another jet. I don’t think it’s the same as Bobby’s. Mike is also at an airport. Apparently, many scenes will be on the airstrip!

We see action by the FBI and Chuck Senior, at another time, surrounded by agents. We see Andolov – at night – in what appears to be a tunnel, Wendy and Mike in a tense conversation. More clash shots and we end with TWO jets parked side by side and Chuck smiling at an unidentified male figure. And now?
