In the too-soon-canceled Dangerous Liaisons prequel, there was a brief appearance by swordsman and composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges (Fisayo Akinade), as a friend of Pascal Valmont (Nicholas Denton) that was doubly entertaining. In addition to being a real person, he was a friend of the author of the book that spawned the film, Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, that is, it reinforces the theory that what ‘shocked’ the French nobility at the time of its release was far from fiction. Something that the film Chevalier, which went straight to the Starplus platform, also suggests. The difference? Now it is indeed a biopic.
That’s right, the incredible story of the composer known as “Black Mozart” was almost forgotten thanks to Napoleon Bonaparte and the French Revolution, even though Chevalier – as he was known – fought alongside the rebels. The film traces its trajectory to moments before the fall of the French monarchy. And it’s worth checking out!
