Nettles in House of the Dragon

The name of the actress who will play Nettles in House of The Dragon has not yet been released, but she is already in action, as fans who follow the recordings have registered. The anxiety to know who she is will be important in the next stage of the series’ history as her involvement will be definitive for Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and will cause a rift between him and his wife/niece, Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy). Nettles could turn out to be the love of Daemon’s life or his daughter, fans are divided and the series will end the debate over who Nettles really is.

Nettles, or Netty, is one of the “dragon seeds” that will be essential for Rhaenyra in her fight for the throne. The seeds, in the book, are a reference to the bastard children of Targaryens, as dragons only fly with people of Valerian blood. In the series, it may be that they eliminate this limiter. (In Game of Thrones, Jon Snow was Aegon, therefore “could” fly, even without Daenerys knowing either of his parentage or, apparently, the need). Anyway, as Daemon calculated and announced at the end of the first season of House of the Dragon, the black team has a greater number of dragons but is without knights. They will have to find people and train to face the green ones and anyone who can tame and ride these dragons – and fight for her – will receive, in addition to the loyalty of animals, lands, and titles. Of course, it will be enough for many to heed the call, mistakenly imagining that they are up to the challenge of taming a dragon. Whoever is fit will fight for Rhaenyra and in this case, unlike the book, they will be called dragon seeds.

Those who have read the book, or want to know about spoilers, remember that four will be successful and successfully ride wild dragons: Addam of Hull, Ulf the White, Hugh Hammer and … Nettles. As they did not confirm the name of who will be Addam, the thesis persists that, as in the series Laenor lives, he is the one who returns and dominates Seasmoke. Alyn (Abubakar Salim), his brother, will dominate Vermithor (seen in the last episode of the first season, when Deamon sings to him). Will Ulf be the Silverwing master and little Nettie? She will command Sheepstealer.,

In the book, Nettles is described as a dark-skinned young woman who can cunningly tame Sheepstealer. She feeds him a sheep every day until she gains his trust. Historians, in other words, the source of the books, differ on her naturalness, after all, as “seed” would be half Targaryen, and some claim that Daemon could be the father. This would justify the connection between the two because Daemon will protect her, arousing suspicion in Mysaria and Rhaenyra, that there is something between them. In any case, Nettie will be one of the most devoted to the Queen and the only one to feel Jacaerys’s death.

Jealousy will arise because Daemon will be constantly accompanied by Nettles, both in the skies and on the ground, presenting her with luxurious items and personally taking care of the girl. For that reason, there is the strongest current that bets on a genuine love story between the two, despite the age difference between them.

After Hugh and Ulf’s betrayal, Mysaria is the one using the facts to fuel Rhaenyra’s animosity and distrust. Soon the Queen believes that the young woman used magic both to tame Sheepstealer and Daemon. That’s why she ends up asking Manfryd Mooton for her head, while also sparing Daemon’s. Manfryd fails to kill Nettie when he finds that she is in bed with Daemon. Upon discovering his wife’s command, Daemon realizes that Rhaenyra has been manipulated by Mysaria, and, to save Nettles, helps her escape. Their parting, it is said, was emotional: they do not speak, but Caraxe expresses Daemon’s pain with a scream that chilled anyone who heard it.

When Nettie disappears, in the book, Rhaenyra is furious. After all, instead of returning to her as he asked/commanded, Daemon flies to Harrenhal, where he officially dies fighting Aemond. His body was never found, fueling the version that he survived and went to meet Nettles.

It is not known – yet – which version is true. Nettles is located when Aegon II Targaryen reclaims the Iron Throne (by slaying Rhaenyra with his dragon), in rags. When Daemon’s son, Aegon III, inherits the Crown, Sheepstealer and Nettles are located in a cave, but are never recovered. With the potential of this impossible love story, there is great anticipation for Nettles’ entry into the plot. Does anyone blame the fans?
