If you’re a fan of Peaky Blinders (like me) you quickly identified Gravik from Secret Invasion as Colonel Ben Younger, whose tragic fate was one of the victims of Thomas Shelby’s (Cillian Murphy) plans. Or do you think he resembles President Obama? Malcolm X? Everyone checks out because they recently came to life on screen in the skin of British actor Kingsley Ben-Adir, the true Skrull in real life. After all, one of the abilities of aliens in the Marvel universe is to transform into someone else to the point that we can’t identify who the real one is, right? And so it’s his job to finish the Bob Marley biopic, just to add another legend to his impressive filmography.

Kingsley is one of the highlights of Secret Invasion that addresses the life of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and yet it is his enigmatic, pragmatic, and frightening Gravik who has been stealing the show. Being a villain in a superhero universe doesn’t suggest a long life, but in his stint on Disney Plus, he’s certainly putting himself shoulder-to-shoulder with Thanos. Maybe the graffiti Thanos was right was written by Skrulls. It would make sense, wouldn’t it?
Descendant of immigrants from Trinidad, Kinsgley graduated professionally as an actor just 12 years ago but quickly rose in her career. At just 37 years old, he divides his time between the stage and TV, but cinema has been the logical destination. Although Kingsley, who got into theater because he had friends studying Drama and found it interesting, has excelled in series such as the aforementioned Peaky Blinders, High Fidelity, Love Life, and a great episode of Black Mirror (along with Sarah Snook). It was his film debut in the movie One Night in Miami (as Malcolm X) that changed everything. Since then, he’s been in the cast of Barbie, but it’s Bob Marley: One Love that could mark his career forever.
The film, directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, from King Richard, is scheduled to hit theaters in January 2024 and features the singer’s children in the production. The script will cover the short life of the legendary Marley, who died of cancer in 1981 at the age of 36, but who changed the world music scene by popularizing reggae.
Are you already betting on Oscar? I sing from now and without having seen it yet. Because a Skrull is always the best human incarnation we’ve ever seen! And Kingsley, without a doubt, is a Skrull!
