The Secret Invasion series has not been unanimous in the Marvel universe, but I confess right away that I am not among the dissatisfied. Even in a fantasy world with superheroes, almost everyone or super rich with access to cutting-edge technology or mutants or Gods, having human heroes is a lot of fun. My favorite is Black Widow, but I’m loving the secret female invasion of Nick Fury’s (Samuel L. Jackson) universe. Furthermore, the series promotes the presence of Queens: that of The Crown and The Favourite, Olivia Colman, and the eternal Queen of Dragons, Emilia Clarke. Between infiltrated Skrulls and the hero’s friends, it’s the female force that stands out.
Officially the antagonist of the story is Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), but it has been Raava – who we only see in the male guise of Rhodey (Don Cheadle) – the cruelest of villains, not so much because she uses the skin of a man to carry out atrocities, but because he takes great pleasure in tormenting Fury.

We lost our Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) – sorry for the SPOILER – but we gained G’iah (Emilia Clarke), the rebellious daughter of Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), who although until the penultimate episode was uncertain which side she was on, brings the ever-popular Emilia for her fourth franchise (she’s in The Terminator, Star Wars and Game of Thrones, not bad huh?), in addition to discovering that Fury was married to the intelligent and charming Varra, or rather, Priscilla (Charlayne Woodard), the Skrull who has taken over the life of a genetics doctor (here’s a hint for fans of what that suggests) and, of course, Sonya Falsworth, the MI6 agent who knows Fury from Cold War times in Moscow and an ultra ally. suspect, played by the always brilliant Olivia Colman (anyone who reads my column knows how much of a fan I am), who brings appreciated humor to Secret Invasion.
Having a Best Actress Oscar winner among Marvel’s mutants and aliens is nothing new (Brie Larson is Captain Marvel, for one thing), but Olivia’s versatility makes Sonya the hot topic of discussion among fans. The actress insisted to her agents that she wanted a chance to be at Marvel (according to her, to stay popular with her kids) and got the perfect role. She is the first to recognize this. “I adore Samuel L. Jackson“, she commented in the promotion of the series. “My favorite memory is sitting with him in a car dancing to Stormzy‘s Audacity. Best moment ever,” she joked. The stars’ connection was clear on the screens precisely because of the rhythm of humor that they know how to insert into the (otherwise) most absurd lines of fantasy content.
Yeah, with this powerful quartet, who is still discussing Gravik and Fury? What really matters is the female universe. Do not you think?
