If in the first two episodes of The Full Circle, the filth of the rich and famous was the only justification for being targeted by a drug dealer and her family, the two new ones confirm and advance in connections. There’s something rotten in Chef Jeff’s kitchen (after The Weeknd‘s ponytail on The Idol, HBO reinforces the mantra of ‘don’t trust anyone who wears a mouse tail’) and the mail detective (this detail is curious ) Harmony remains brilliant and nasty at the same time, guiding us through a 20-year-old crime complex that is the backbone of today’s drama.

Guyanese immigrants forced to participate in crimes are trying to survive, save innocent people and escape, but obviously, in this circle, those who enter only come out dead. As I had already suspected, Nicky was not just any boy chasing Jared, Derek and Sam’s son, he is Derek’s bastard son, who survives thanks to the intervention of Natalia and her brother. While she and Louis are eager to find a ticket back home, Nicky is clearly and eerily quiet and in no hurry to get away. This part of the story, showing how the criminal underworld of the Guyanese mafia works, is the most tense and dramatic of The Full Circle, with good performances and a lot of anguish.
There was a real estate lawsuit in Guyana 20 years ago that ended the career of Chef Jeff’s brother, a retired police officer tainted with bribery that Sam is clearly more than aware of. Due to these fictional coincidences, the other policeman involved is precisely Manny, Harmony’s boss. Besides buying land and evicting people, he clearly has more involvement because Mrs. Mahabir is convinced that this is where her family’s curse began, the one she wants to close the circle and demand Jared’s death.

The explanations of the two episodes only confirm suspicions, yet reveal nothing surprising. The big mystery is how Chef Jeff is such a huge celebrity while being so obviously fake. They still haven’t humanized Mahabir’s motivation, she still sounds like a sociopath and fanatic, but I trust that the revelation will change the dynamic of what we are seeing.
The Full Circle is almost under the radar of the general public but it is a curious and well-wound mystery, something that was missing on the platforms.
