A perfect horror classic gets a new production

In December 2023, the film The Exorcist completes half a century and continues today to pure perfection. They tried a sequel, and a prequel without the same success. It’s really on the level of perfection. And today the trailer for the new attempt that will hit theaters in October moved social networks, especially because it brings Ellen Burstyn back as Chris MacNeil. The Exorcist: Believer is directed by the same David Gordon Green who successfully revived the Halloween franchise. The idea is to transform the new immersion into the story as a trilogy.

In this first feature, two girls are possessed after being saved from a supposed kidnapping. One of them is Angela (Lidya Jewett), raised by her widowed father Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom, Jr.). Angela and her friend Katherine (Olivia Marcum) disappear for three days in the woods and have no memory of what happened. But soon Victor will have to deal with forces greater than earthly. The only person alive to have witnessed anything like it before is former actress, now writer, Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn). The problem is: how to exorcise them?

The trailer hints less at the psychological line of William Friedkin‘s original, with scares and lots of blood. The sequel, The Exorcist: The Deceiver already has a release date too, and will hit theaters on April 18, 2025. The third stage has yet to be announced. The 1973 film was inspired by a real case, based on the book by William Peter Blatty, and tells the story of Regan (Linda Blair), a girl who is possessed by a demonic entity, leading her mother (Burstyn) to a desperate search for priests who can help her. The Exorcist was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, taking the awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Sound.

The Exorcist: Believer will be the big release for Halloween. Check out the trailer.
