Everyone is shocked that the dynamic between David Tennant and Michael Sheen is so perfectly in tune and has only existed since 2019. Because perhaps the answer is because, like Aziraphale and Crowley, the angels they play in the delicious Bad Omens, whose short second season surpasses the first precisely because of the undeniable chemistry between the two.

Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and Crowley (David Tennant) are angels in love with humans, but Crowley, the eternal anarchist, and questioner, ‘fell’ from Heaven when he questioned God’s plans and today is an (untrustworthy) agent of Hell. They are opposites, but complementary in everything. We meet them again shortly after the conclusion of the first season, where they come together to save humanity, against the wishes of Heaven and Hell. However, being discarded on Earth is a paradise for them, who once again find themselves involved in a drama that only gets worse with the well-intentioned interference of the two. I won’t go into details of the plot or the conclusion, which was bittersweet and perfect, because it spoils the surprise. What matters is that the dynamic between the two actors is so perfect that when the story ends, we are already looking forward to the third.

Coming from the imagination and romance of series showrunner Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett, Bad Omens has plenty of humor and sarcasm to address religious, behavioral, and cultural issues, which is only made better by the precision of these two. great actors. Everything goes as expected and unexpected, in a paradox that only highlights the lightness and intelligence of the series. Here, after successfully working together, the two angels find themselves at a professional and personal crossroads that has a Metatron (Derek Jacobi) directly interfering with the otherwise obvious conclusion. And once again we find ourselves on the side of the so imperfect and sensational Crowley, whose skepticism always puts him halfway between right and wrong. Sounds easy, but Aziraphale is not.
And that is the beauty of Bad Omens: a gray world, an imperfect world whose dynamic of opposites attract builds a possible reality. In limbo, we’ll be pining for a third installment with an aching heart. Let’s pray!
