I’m going to reverse the order of things today. I’m already talking about the episode The Last Supper – Part One. Let’s talk about the season finale and what does the trailer show us?
Carrie prepares to receive 15 friends, new and old, to turn the final page in her life and leave her apartment of at least 30 years (she has been in New York for 35 years and Sex and the City is 25. The studio was different in the pilot, but the window was already the same so Carrie was already at the address when I met her). Outside, as before, Aidan calls out to her through the window and then we see him in the apartment with her. Once he explained the reason for the local’s fear and resentment, it was sweet to see them overcome the crisis.
Miranda is in the season of public redemption. Her naming Skipper (the boyfriend she mistreated in Season 1) and being publicly humiliated by Che has yet to date. She is happy for Steve but out of his life. We see her going to Coney Island to somehow have a more dignified ending with her ex-husband. Did we finally “forgive” her? (Why is she apologizing?)
Charlotte, still hungover from the day before, will have to deal with Anthony’s drama, whether he accepts anal sex with her new boyfriend or not. Harry represents all cis in his reaction to the scene and in the way he explains to his wife about her friend’s drama.
Lisa has lost the baby but is ready and looking beautiful at Carrie’s dinner, praising the spectacular table she has prepared for her friends. At the same ‘party’, Miranda breaks the ice with Che, so as not to spoil Carrie’s night.
Seema has found love with her Hollywood director. We know this because we see her affectionate towards him and Carrie’s voice saying “This was all you ever wanted and now maybe you’re scared.”
Nya is reunited with the handsome man who flirted with her at the bar (when she was still married): he is the chef hired by Carrie for the farewell dinner. In other words: a happy ending for our teacher who is doing a double take on looking good with her ex-husband having a baby with his second wife.
And we see Miranda running from the apartment in a taxi. Unless Che leaves the apartment and has to run after her ex, I already know what happened. She is the UN lawyer she met at work who calls her to meet her and Miranda makes a spontaneous decision to be happy.
Carrie gives a speech about the apartment: “This place meant everything to me,” they clink. The phone rings… Samantha! And just like that, we get the cameo we hoped for.
And Just Like That could be the conclusion of the franchise, which was picking up the pace, but which already has the most repeated and tired themes in 25 years. There is no confirmation of the third season, it could be our goodbye. Will it be so?
