I’m saying I can never complain about Only Murders in the Building. I went to ask where the police were and Oliver (Martin Short) gave me a tug on the ear: They already arrested the suspect in episode 1, even if the “wrong suspect”, so there is no further investigation. Sorry! I’m on the side of Mabel (Selena Gomez), who knows that the story is different and is trying to keep the partnership with her podcasters. But first, the recap, because they keep pointing to Loretta (Meryl Streep), but the ‘culprit’ – for me – is someone else.
Oliver is tortured because everything indicates that Loretta is not only not who she seems, but all the clues point to suspicion and he is in love. In today’s episode, they talk about ghosts in the theater and my favorite suspect, who has been on and off the lists since the first season, Howard Morris (Michael Cyril Creighton) eliminates himself proclaiming that “he killed Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd)”. Obviously by accident because the series is being a crash course for theater maniacs (hands up who’s in the club!) and playfully explains another behind-the-scenes superstition with ghost stories. Hello? Phantom of the Opera? In this case, Gideon Goosebury, the (fictitious) actor who died at the premiere of a play needs to be fawned over so that things don’t go wrong in the season. (The Ghost Light is true, though). Howard claims he failed to do so on the night of the murder, so he was responsible for the production star’s death. Obviously, it isn’t.

The personal crisis for each of the podcast trio is the OMITB season’s move: Oliver hiding his heart problems (which will come back, of course); Charles (Steve Martin) once again alone and Mabel having to leave the building and lead a more responsible life. With different priorities, the effort to investigate the crime is what unites them, but so far they haven’t recorded a second, the podcast has actually been retired. Of course, it’s because they don’t want to have problems with the police again, but it’s weird… or not, whenever I complain I regret it.
Not to spoil another episode of perfect text and great performances, Oliver discovers the true ghost and other truths that haunt him. He wants to protect Loretta, but that only confuses his friends’ investigation. When confronted, he is rude to Mabel, who apparently breaks up with the two and goes to work with Cinda Canning (Tina Fey). At the moment, the team’s lack of focus and unity distances any solution from Ben’s death and the crossroads move towards the opening night of the musical.

Having said all that, okay, Howard is not the killer, or Joy or Jonathan (Howard’s boyfriend and now star of the play). Everyone has an alibi and has no reason to kill. Tobert, as Mabel’s boyfriend, shouldn’t be excluded, but the tradition of culprits deceiving the principals stick with Charles, it could be that her current romantic interest, as in previous seasons, is really just helping out. Nobody talks about Dickie (Jeremy Shamos), who I think still holds the secret to his brother’s death. How to find out with the podcast in crisis?
