Interestingly, it is common for series that start to be successful to have a lot of egos behind the scenes. Yellowstone was no exception to the rule, it seems. And unfortunately it “cost” dearly because Paramount Plus has already announced that the fifth season will be the last. Calm! Spinoffs are still a reality.

Yellowstone became a huge international success six years ago when Kevin Costner led the cast as the patriarch of the Dutton family, owners of the largest ranch in Montana, the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch or just “Yellowstone”. Political or racial power conflicts, due to the Broken Rock Indian Reservation, Yellowstone National Park, and developers in the region. Created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, also made Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, and Gil Birmingham global stars. Obviously having an actor of Costner’s status helps, but it creates problems. Apparently, he started to demand more in salary and even has in his contract “how John Dutton can be killed or leave the series”, in order to avoid embarrassing conclusions for the character and actor.
The success of Yellowstone generated the series 1883 (which shows the Dutton family generation during the Wild West) and 1923 (with the Dutton generation during the Great Depression) and will gain another satellite, still unnamed but with Matthew McConaughey in the cast. 1923, still in production, has Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford as stars, that is, always with the greats.

Rumors of the series’ recording crisis began at the beginning of the year, before the strikes, with stories of Kevin Costner‘s dissatisfaction with recording schedules. The impasse motivated the platform to simply cancel Yellowstone and focus on other content based on it. The actor’s divorce also brought to light that his contract has a clause dubbed ‘moral death’, which determines how John Dutton can be killed. Much of the current season already has fewer appearances by the character, which fueled rumors of an end and without the guarantee that he will return to record the last episodes. This is because of other information that the press following the separation released, at the hearing he would have said that he is no longer under contract and does not know if he will return to record. Soap opera on and off the screen!
