The intricate plot of The Wheel of Time is difficult to follow, especially when memorizing so many names and adversaries and so few ‘sympathetic’ characters. But in particular, fans are praising the heavy episode Eyes Without Pity as the best in the series so far. It’s dense, it’s heavy and very sad. As two days have passed, I will comment with spoilers.

Now that we’ve confirmed that Selene is Lanfear and a member of the Forsaken, the game has changed. To make matters worse, Egwene al’Vere (Madeleine Madden) is captured by the Seanchan and now we follow the violent, heavy, and cruel process of the character’s enslavement. The torture is painful for us too, especially because it is under the magical control of Renna (Xelia Mendes-Jones) and, as we saw Theon turned into a dog by Ramsay in Game of Thrones, we panicked and anticipate what we might be witnessing (again). Readers of the books, knowing about Egwene’s future, say that what we are seeing will be crucial to her turnaround. But there’s no doubt that this season is darker than the first.
Nynaeve (Zoë Robins) and Elayne (Ceara Coveney) are committed to saving Egwene and have the help of the Yellow Ajah’s Aes Sedai, Ryma (Nyokabi Gethaiga) and her guard Basan (Bentley Kalu). Unfortunately, they also discover that she was part of a group of sisters sent earlier to investigate, but two died and one was enslaved. They try to learn how to open the collar, but are spotted and Ryma and Basan sacrifice themselves to save Nynaeve and Elayne, with Ryma being arrested.

Meanwhile, Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski) meets Lanfear (Natasha O’Keeffe) in the dream world and she facilitates a meeting between Rand and Egwene, where he sees his beloved is in captivity. But there is no time, the exchange between Lanfear and Rand is that he separates from Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), or she will be killed. The exchange is that Lanfear will help him reunite with his friends, starting with Mat (Josha Stradowski), something that worries Min (Kae Alexander) because she sees that Mat is going to kill Rand. Meanwhile, Lanfear kills Liandrin’s (Kate Fleetwood) son who ultimately betrayed everyone for nothing.
Lan (Daniel Henney) reveals to Alanna (Priyanka Bose), Ihvon (Emmanuel Imani), and Maksim (Taylor Napier) that Moiraine found the Dragon Reborn and they take him to Siuan Sanche (Sophie Okonedo). In fact, Moiraine remains mysterious. Her sister Anvaere (Lindsay Duncan) and her nephew Barthanes Damodred (Will Tudor) still struggle, but she keeps her distance. Everything is heading towards a new clash. And it could get worse before it gets better.
