In 2008, the beauty of a (still) unknown actress caught attention in one of the band Oasis‘ last videos before they split up. In Falling Down (one of my favorite songs) young Natasha O’Keeffe played a fictional princess who indulged in parties, late-night dates, and drugs. It was her first professional job and as a fan of the Manchester band she dealt for the first time with the challenges of learning to put herself in front of the cameras. The lenses fell in love with her, of course. And you are wrong that the video was about Diana Spencer, but a modern version of Princess Margaret, for many years considered the black sheep of the Royal Family.

Born to Irish parents, Natasha began studying theater to overcome her shyness. Playing other people makes her more comfortable than playing herself, she said in an interview a few years ago. “At drama school, my teachers said “you can’t just do a role where you’re close to yourself”. I don’t mind that, but any opportunity to look really different or put on a different accent or voice,” she said.
Since appearing in the music video, the actress has had more opportunities, with roles in Sherlock, Misfits (a role for which she is most recognized in the UK), Jekyll & Hyde, and Law & Order: UK. But international fame came after almost ten years that she was in the cast of Peaky Blinders as the long-suffering Lizzie Stark. She was supposed to be a cameo in the first season and became one of the main characters at the conclusion. Afterwards, she worked in British cinema and TV until she became one of the antagonists in The Wheel of Time. That’s right, she is the feared Lanfear, and she has stood out in the role!
Her entry into the cast of the Amazon Prime Video fantasy series was announced in 2021, but full of mystery as to who she would play. Only now have they confirmed that Selene, Rand’s lover, is indeed Lanfear. The “Daughter of the Night” is one of the most feared renegades of The Wheel of Time and fought for the Dark side during the War of Power where they lost the dispute against the original Dragon and his army of Aes Sedai, the Hundred Companions.

Lanfear first returned as Selene and became involved with Rand, which revived a past relationship. Yes, she was in love with the first Dragon, Lews Therin Telamon but he broke up with her when he realized she was ambitious and thought she was only with him because of the One Power. Lews left her for Ilyena, which increased Lanfear’s resentment. What the Dragon didn’t realize was that the path to evil arose from jealousy, not from other feelings. That’s why her relationship with Rand is complex and clearly proves that she never got over her passion. Natasha has been putting on a show with a less restricted character like Lizzie.
Married to actor and director, Dylan Edwards, who she met while studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, she now has two children (a boy and a girl) with him. Natasha is in his film, Tyger. Little is known about her personal life because Natasha insists on keeping a low profile. Currently involved with The Wheel of Time, she may appear in the planned film Peaky Blinders (maybe?), but she really dreams of trying to venture into Theater. Or a female version of Beetlejuice, who many years ago said she was her favorite character. Do dreams come true? Certainly like Lanfear, she promises to chart this path.
