I love Ahsoka and love seeing my beloved characters from Rebels again, but it still doesn’t surpass the strength of the ‘people’ alternatives to Star Wars, represented by Andor and Rogue One, where there are no Jedis, witches or (many) androids to help the heroes. Still, the samurai aspect of the saga is exciting. That said, the penultimate episode of the series was exciting and with more classic quotes, from C3PO, Princess Leia, Anakin Skywalker, or even, just back in the mind, Cassian Andor.

In a few lines, Thrawn’s (Lars Mikkelsen) strategy is, as expected, infallible. He anticipates that Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) is alive, her unpredictability means “killing her” will cost soldiers and time, and he can only sacrifice physical strength. Therefore, with the help of the witches, he locates the Jedi (who is technically not a Jedi) and even makes attempts to stop her mission to save Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) and Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Brodizzo), but eventually leaves the work in the hands of Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) and Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno). No matter the ‘victory’, he is the one who wins, who is ready to leave the abandoned Galaxy where he was trapped for five years.
Sabine apparently hasn’t said what happened to get to him – or Ezra’s progress in connecting with the Force – because there’s no drama. She omits the fact that she believes Ahsoka is dead but cites the Battle of Endor. Speaking of which, review C3PO, submitted by Leia (Carrie Fisher) to defend the Rebels, as well as seeing that Anakin (Hayden Christensen) left several videos recorded for Ahsoka, are Easter eggs that warm the heart.

Meanwhile, Baylan completes Shin’s training by sending his apprentice alone to face the duo. In short, while Sabine and Ezra deal with Shin, Ahsoka manages to escape Thrawn’s traps and before saving her friends, faces Baylan once again, this time with less tragic results. Baylan’s fate always pains me because he’s great, but Ray Stevenson‘s death certainly impacts what’s next for him. Shin obviously has no way of beating Sabine, Ezra, and Ahsoka together, but I bet that even though she ‘ran away’, she will be vital in helping them escape, and yes, she can ‘turn to Good’.
Ahsoka is just the prologue to the movie with Thrawn, so we already know the Admiral will win. But let’s praise the perfection of the chosen cast here. Eman Esfandi and Natasha Liu Brodizzo had such a difficult mission as Rosario Dawson, which was to bring idolized animated characters to life. Anyone who has seen Star Wars Rebels and Clone Wars knows: they are incredible. I want more of them, too bad we only have one more episode. It’s going to be hard to see Ahsoka later!
