The Gilded Age poster for season 2

Today was for ‘disclosure’, right? Angelina Jolie as Maria Callas, the teaser for The Crown… and the official poster for the second season of The Gilded Age! See here and let’s analyze the details.

“Ambition has met its match.” This is the signature of the season and reinforces, with everyone in the theater, the “War of the Operas”, which marked New York in 1883. It will not be a “new” theme, throughout the first season they already alluded to the conflict of the “old” New York against the “new” precisely because the nouveau riche were essentially “barred” from the opera season. Bertha (Carrie Coon) had already opposed the restriction and will lead the construction of the new theater. It’s not the only drama of the season, we know, but it’s what will focus the biggest efforts.

I doubly appreciate seeing Peggy Scott (Denée Scott) and her mother, Dorothy (Audra McDonald), dressed up and also in the audience. Even more so because Audra is one of the most famous sopranos in the world of opera and I’m hoping that, somehow, she can sing. But that’s personal desire. The good thing is to confirm that part of their story, one of the most interesting in the series, will be highlighted.

On the other hand, we see that Caroline Astor (Donna Murphy) limits contact between Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) and the Russells, positioned between the neighbors. This bothers me because the rivalry between Agnes and Bertha is just a satellite of the real dispute between Bertha and Caroline, this takes away a lot of the dynamic as advertised as in this poster, once again. It doesn’t happen on screen. Will it change now?
