How I missed Joe Hamm on the air and in the role of a (clearly) toxic man. His entry into The Morning Show brought an undeniable energy that was sorely missed. Everything about Paul Marks is suspicious, and from Stella’s (Greta Lee) physical reaction to meeting him again, the subtle and creepy way he comments that part of the reason he’s buying UBA is because it’s there and doing good work and Her being terrified tells us that Paul has what it takes to be a predatory lord.
Well, now it’s official and Paul Marks is the “owner” of UBA, in the final stage of negotiations. There is undeniable sexual tension between him and Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) and he uses it to his advantage, obviously. At first, Alex is showing what a good journalist she is, asking the right questions and going ahead to interview him, while Bradley (Reese Witherspoon) and Mia (Karen Pittman) are using generalist-looking guidelines – how will they deal with information leaks? , something that Bradley knows has sensitive personal matters of hers or like if there are layoffs on the horizon, something that Mia also worries about – to find out something more personal.

Bradley once again deals with the drama of her brother Hal, who after everything he has done, including committing a crime, now wants to turn himself in because of the invasion of the Capitol. “I’m a mess,” she tells Laura (Juliana Marguiles) because no one doubts when Hal appears it’s a sign of turmoil. Cory (Billy Crudup) had already pressured her before, giving her a checkmate so that she could fix her brother. After annoying everyone, including ours, Bradley is kind of finding himself with no alternative.
“The” interview is another highlight of the episode. At this point, Stella reveals the truth to Chip (Mark Duplass), without us having heard it and when the producer notices the atmosphere between him and Alex, we are left wondering whether it is jealousy or concern. And God, Joe Hamm wins us over with his perfect form of passive aggressiveness and is ruthless like Stella had warned Mia. The problem is that Paul is quickly controlling the tone of the interview, not Alex. The ping-pong game gains pace with more aggressive cuts. We soon learn that Paul’s fortune was made by buying an idea from a student, whom he silenced with a confidentiality contract, and that student – who appears to be Stella – even tried to take her life. When Paul appears to be at a loss, he gives an intimate, personal statement that turns the narrative in his favor again. And truth? Is it manipulation? Unfortunately, he puts Alex in his pocket and leaves Chip uncomfortable.
The personal lives of the UBA team only become more tense. As Alex does not suspect that the “Stanford student” is actually Stella, she becomes increasingly involved with Paul. Literally. Ethics rules are just suggestions on the broadcaster. Bradley slept with Cory, and now Alex with Paul. And Chip will once again ruin a relationship because of his unresolved history with Alex. That’s right, this part of the story wasn’t left behind as it seemed.

Hope for Bradley comes through Laura’s interference. She doesn’t know the truth about what Hal did, just as she doesn’t even suspect Cory, and asks Hal to give them both a chance. The words that convinced her were that he was the only one with whom Bradley was herself. Therefore, he gives up on handing himself over to the FBI. It works.
Paul reverses his conflict with Stella by offering her the position of Cory, who doesn’t even suspect he’s digging his own grave. And worse, he seems to have convinced her. So now Bradley and Alex are heading towards a new rivalry. Obviously, Bradley is on team Cory, and Chip will be too. Alex, who doesn’t even suspect Stella, is total team Paul. This season of The Morning Show finally has some drama to make us question!
