Loki remains one of Marvel’s greatest assets even in dark times. The God of Mischief who antagonized the Avengers and his brother, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) has always lived up to his talents by always stealing the show when he appears, thanks to Tom Hiddleston becoming increasingly comfortable in the role. After following an almost spiritual evolution after Loki is “arrested” by the time police when he escapes from one of the realities in a new timeline, it is good when we are reminded that Loki is a villain, not a hero. Who has forgotten the people he killed, the destruction he caused, and the blows he dealt Thor?

Yes, all of us. Gone are the days of Loki who met a tragic fate at the hands of Thanos. The aspect that escaped is the one that shows us that there was untapped heroic potential in him because above all Loki is a daffodil. Yes, we cannot forget that Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) is Loki, literally, so it is an uninterrupted personal confrontation of variants from the same complex source of personalities. For this reason and due to the series’ undeniable aesthetic and narrative quality, we can celebrate our (short) interaction with one of Marvel’s best content.
The second season of Loki needs to complete the proposal of the first, which, among other consequences, opened the multiverse and released the villain, Kang (Jonathan Majors). Besides Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), only Loki knows who the real threat to Earth is at the moment, which puts him in the unique position of fighting for the heroes instead of being the antagonist. But he still needs to deal with his dilemmas, Sylvie being one of the main ones. At the moment, it is in Loki’s interest to embrace the TVA cause because it is where he defines himself, a scenario in which his selfishness is used for good, but as always, we never know if it is a decisive choice.
Loki’s (spiritual) evolution in the other season forced him to deal with difficult choices: being fake as always would have a tragic conclusion, but fighting for something bigger than himself, making friends, or learning to truly love another person were impossible challenges for him, Luckily, loving another was loving yourself and today he is, effectively, ‘another’ Loki. One who, unlike Sylvie, considers the consequences and tries to think before acting. It may be saving other lives, but this variant that we are monitoring will save itself before anyone else. Guys, Loki is Loki!

Officially a hero, even if using his flaws as advantages, the Loki of this second season is still dealing with his own destiny before thinking about the Universe. This makes the story seem relatively stagnant: Loki wants to find Sylvie to help him and help himself, but the two variants still oppose each other over what would be the best solution for everyone. Therefore in this episode, in addition to meeting again, the two have to deal with the limited time to avoid the chaos that started with the death of the one who remains. The speed at which the multiverse is expanding signifies the imminent collapse of the Time Loom and threatens to destroy all reality.
Then we find Loki and Mobius (Owen Wilson) on the trail of the X-5 hunter. He decided to live one of his variants who is a movie star in 1970s London. In a test sequence of Hiddleston as 007, or so it seemed, they capture X-5/Brad Wolfe and return to TVA. They want to know how to find Sylvie with the altered TemPad from X-5 that teleports them without TVA tracking. Meanwhile, we find out that Ravonna Renslayer has Miss Minutes’ help with whatever she’s trying to do. That’s for the next episode, here the goal was the reunion of Loki and Sylvie, who is understandably cold and distant, but he needs her help to find and stop General Dox from bombing the new timelines into extinction. Loki manages to stop her, but only after 30% of the plan has been achieved, killing billions. Witnessing this is triggering for Sylvie, who disappears again. With Dox under control, Loki and Mobius need to find Renslayer and Miss Minutes because they need one of the variants of He Who Remains, or rather, Kang, to prevent the total implosion of time.
Therefore, there is still a long way to go, but with guaranteed pace and quality.
