The nostalgia of farewell to The Crown

That’s it, folks. In a few days, we will have the last episodes of The Crown, ending one of the most awarded series in recent years. And in the nostalgia that anticipates the final stage, once again they chose the perfect song for the trailer: Sweet Disposition. The song by Australian band The Tender Trap was released in 2008 and won the world on the soundtrack of 500 Days with Summer, but now, it is perfect for the farewell to the saga of Elizabeth II and her family on Netflix.

The expression Sweet Disposition is used in English to refer to people with a sweet, pleasant temperament who always hold back their emotions, truly loving. The song uses the expression in another sense, highlighting the period of youth, in which we are more open to emotions before becoming adults and giving preference to reasoning. So it’s about capturing the innocence of youth, which fits perfectly with the images and phrases used in the trailer for The Crown, with Elizabeth II saying goodbye to her sister, Margaret, and rethinking what she gave up – as a woman – for the sake of the Crown, as we see the pressure of succession on a Charles, finally uniting with Camilla, and a shy and suffering William meeting his future wife, Kate Middleton. To the sound of Sweet Disposition? Exciting.

As in previous campaigns, they used How Soon Is Now, by The Smiths in the fourth season, referring to Charles, or Mad World, by Tears for Fears in the sixth about Princess Diana, ending with a hymn to young love, which we should embrace it while it lasts, it is a foretaste of what the showrunner’s message to his audience is. “A moment, a love / A dream, a Laugh / A Kiss, a Cry / Our Rights, Our Wrongs“, marks the images of everything we saw and learned about the Royal Family from the series. How not to love?

There are only a few days left. Made History.

Sweet disposition
Never too soon
Oh, reckless abandon
Like no one’s watching you
A moment
A love
A dream
Aloud
A kiss
A cry
Our rights
Our wrongs
A moment a love
A dream
Aloud
A moment
A love
A dream
Aloud

So stay there
Cause I’ll be coming over
And while our blood’s still young
It’s so young, it runs
And won’t stop ‘til it’s over
Won’t stop to surrender

Songs of desperation
I played them for you
A moment
A love
A dream
Aloud
A kiss
A cry
Our rights
Our wrongs
A moment
A love
A dream
Aloud
A moment
A love
A dream
Aloud

So stay there
Cause I’ll be coming over
And while our blood’s still young
It’s so young, it runs
And won’t stop ‘til it’s over
Won’t stop to surrender
Won’t stop ‘til it’s over
Won’t stop ‘til it’s over
Won’t stop ‘til it’s over
Won’t stop to surrender
