Christmas for me is synonymous with nostalgia, so I like to take advantage of the break to rewatch classics, whether themed or not. Making a list of them, therefore, is a task that stresses me out because it can go anywhere!
In 2023, I suggest five that include my all-time favorites, many with the surefire romantic edge to generate serotonin and make us smile and relax.

The Holiday
This 2006 production is my “go-to” when I want to disconnect. The lives of four people who, during a particularly painful Christmas for each of them, cross paths definitively, unexpectedly uniting two countries.
The chemistry between Cameron Diaz and Jude Law, as well as, amazingly, Jack Black and Kate Winslet, make us want to travel, rent a B&B, and wait for fate to act. If only everything were that easy!
Available on Amazon Prime Video.
The Last Holiday
Another film from 2006 that always tops my watch list to lift the spirits! Queen Latifah is a dedicated employee at a chain store who receives a surprising diagnosis that she only has a few days left to live and decides to do everything on her bucket list. She obviously barely suspects that she is healthy, but the change in attitude takes her on an unforgettable journey that changes not only her trajectory but that of many people. Beautiful from end to end.
Available on Lionsgate Plus.
While You Were Sleeping
This 1995 film was offered to Julia Roberts and Demi Moore, who turned it down. Lucky for actress Sandra Bullock, who came from a series of supporting roles and, when leading the cast, became a global star. That’s right, Sandra Bullock was even considered unknown when she agreed to make this romantic pearl of an unlikely love between a alone woman and a man in a coma. Well, technically that’s what the name suggests, but we know how a well-tuned, fun comedy with Christmas as the backdrop unfolds. It’s been 28 years since it hit theaters and I swear, it hasn’t aged.
Available on Disney Plus.
Four Christmases
This 2008 comedy unites unlikely couple Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn as the cynical duo who hate Christmas because, with their parents separated, the Holidays are a nightmare. Little did they know how the lies they told to escape come to light: they are forced to navigate no less than four suppers, each with a secret from the past embarrassing them both more than the other. Hilarious, romantic, and fun. It falls like a pearl for many people!
Available on Amazon Prime Video.
Sleepless in Seatle
It’s no surprise that Ted Lasso said that the best romantic comedy of all time is one of Norah Ephron‘s biggest hits: Sleepless in Seattle. By reversing ALL the rules of the genre, Norah created one of the most romantic films of all time, masterfully stirring people’s emotions. Of course, it all starts on Christmas Eve, when journalist Annie Reed (Meg Ryan) connects with the story of widower Sam (Tom Hanks), defying logic and fate. Obvious request for Christmas Eve!
