The story between Mr. and Mrs. Smith has a turbulent tradition: on and off screen. Before creating Brangelina 19 years ago, the film about two married and rival professional assassins passed through the hands of Johnny Depp and Nicole Kidman, but was immortalized with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Then, it almost became a TV series (with the pilot recorded and discarded) until Phoebe Waller Bridge and Donald Glover, after working together on Han Solo and being successful separately (she with Fleabag and he with Atlanta) were announced in 2020 as the next Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

The brilliant duo was celebrated, but egos grew behind the scenes and ‘artistic differences’ delayed work until Phoebe left production in 2021. Two years later, we will finally see the result on Amazon Prime Video. And it was about time!

The first thing that the trailer makes clear is that the film and series will be very different, a conscious choice by Glover, who was not familiar with the film and, when he saw it, found it weak. According to him, they were just situations added to explore the beauty of the couple, without getting close to their complex relationship, which he considers potentially more interesting.

Alongside actress Maya Erskine, Mr. and Mrs. Smith is now the fake identity of two lonely strangers who sign up for a mysterious spy agency, not knowing they will be a couple. It actually seems more interesting to me! Premieres in 30 days! (a little less)
