What did I say? The wave of biopics is far from over. Another star announced that she is venturing into the genre, none other than Selena Gomez. And she didn’t see herself playing just anyone, Selena will bring to the screen the story of the iconic American singer Linda Ronstadt, a country and pop legend, loved and adored in the United States and around the world. The announcement was made last night, but the reaction was immediate, including a post by the singer and actress in her stories with the cover of Linda’s biography, Simple Dreams, released 11 years ago. Physically it makes a lot of sense and Selena won’t need to undergo major changes, but will she lip sync? Linda’s vocal range is rare and Selena doesn’t have nearly the same timbre…

Hollywood has always liked to retell the trajectory of its stars on screen and Linda Ronstadt, with her Latin origins, has one that looks like a movie. Anyone who saw the 2019 documentary, Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice, already understands how the script must be designed. Something similar to Amy Winehouse’s version of the story, whose trailer repeats in detail what the documentary Amy revealed behind the scenes of the singer. Here are the same producers, John Boylan and James Keach, so it’s already a teaser of what the biopic, which is in pre-production, will be like.
Linda Ronstadt‘s story is perfect because not only was she one of the country’s biggest stars, but she also excelled in rock and Latin music, a rare versatility in the music world, where genres avoid crossovers. Throughout her brilliant career, the singer has won several awards, including 11 Grammys. She sang with gigantic artists and it will be interesting to follow the announcement of who will be in the film as Linda lived in a very rich period of music in the 1970s. Just to put it into context, the main core of the band Eagles – Glenn Frey and Don Henley – met while traveling as its musicians.

Over five decades, Linda was adored and created classics like her version of Blue Bayou, You’re No Good, among others. She sang opera, sang standards, sang on Broadway, and fought against machismo and prejudice to establish herself as a reference in music. There is a lot to show throughout the film. I bet we’ll have a moment of her singing Long Long Time which gained new momentum after being used in one of the most emotional episodes of The Last of Us.
On the personal side, the singer never married but had some famous relationships, such as producer J. D. Souther, with whom she worked on the album Don’t Cry Now, California governor Jerry Brown, who ran for President in the late 1970s when she was still with her, comedian Jim Carrey and producer George Lucas, to whom she became engaged. Therefore, there will be names and faces circulating in the film, as well as icons who are friends of Linda, like Dolly Parton. and Emmylou Harris.

Despite her German name, Linda Ronstadt is of Mexican descent, something she and Selena Gomez have in common. The young star is very popular among the millennial audience, she is a successful singer as well as an actress, so it seemed like an unsurprising choice for the role. Except for the voice!
Linda only stepped away from public life in 2011, when she revealed to the world that she suffers from progressive supranuclear palsy, which prevents her from continuing to sing. The disease was originally confused with Parkinson’s and unfortunately silenced one of the most beautiful voices in music in the 20th century. The soundtrack will be a guaranteed success. From now until its launch, we will follow the development!
