The sitcom Bewitched was a huge hit on TV for 8 years, from the late 1960s to the early 1970s. As I remembered here on the site 4 years ago, Samantha Stephens was supposed to be a typical woman of her time (submissive, housewife) except that – because she was a sorceress – she poked good-naturedly at all the sexist concepts of the time. It is to this day one of the biggest pop culture references created on television.

After 21 years of an unsuccessful attempt to turn the story into a film, with Nicole Kidman, it is about to return to the lives of new generations. Sony is working on the reboot, which is being handled by writer and producer Judalina Neira (The Boys, Daisy Jones and the Six), who describes the project as an “irreverent reimagining” of the classic.
The showrunner will have a challenge that will require more than just turning your nose because although Samantha was superior to her husband and deceived men by pretending to be submissive, she was effectively submissive and adept at the perfect housewife style. In the 21st century of modern and independent women, the magic continues to be changing the sexist mentality, but Samantha was not engaged. It’s so challenging that CBS has tried it more than once in the last 10 years, but it still hasn’t come close to satisfying. The last attempt, by ABC, was in 2018.

The great success of The Boys seems to give Judalina everyone’s vote of confidence that she will be able to “save” Samantha. And of course, the question of who could play her begins because Elizabeth Montgomery is still perfect to this day.
The proposal now is to have 1-hour episodes instead of 30 minutes, mixing drama and comedy and yes, it also includes an animated Bewitched series, focusing on Samantha’s pre-teen daughter, Tabitha. Let’s follow along!
