Jenniffer Lopez is definitely a romantic in love. The proof is not in her special This Is Me… Now: A Love Story, or in her romantic songs and even less in her four real-life marriages. No, we know that J-Lo is in love with Love because of her filmography.

With a varied filmography, which includes drama, sci-fi, comedies, and adventures, it is the romantic titles that come to mind most quickly, many of them about weddings specifically, and almost all of them taking place when J-Lo was about to get married in real life.
Before anyone says anything, it wasn’t her intention to mirror reality with fantasies: Elizabeth Taylor starred in The Father of the Bride when she got married for the first time (seven others would come later), and Grace Kelly was also in The Swan when she became a princess from Monaco. So it’s just curious that Hollywood’s biggest Latin star experienced the same thing.
Romantic films starring Jenniffer come to mind in light of her most personal project of her entire career, the elusive This Is Me… Now: A Love Story, which she defined as her romantic odyssey and which cost 20 million dollars.
If in the special the singer took us through her four real weddings, how about remembering those on screen?
Four weddings and a romantic star
1- The Wedding Planner, 2001
Mary Fiore (Lopez) is the most sought-after wedding planner in San Francisco, but she breaks the most important rule of all: she falls in love with her client’s fiancé (McConaughey).
One of the best romantic comedies of the last 20 years, it brings together the passionate Jenniffer Lopez and the king of rom-coms of the time, Matthew McConaughey. Of course, like many films, the initial couple would be different: Sarah Michelle Gellar was unable to interrupt the recording of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer, and Minnie Driver refused the role, with Matthew only joining because Brendan Fraser had a scheduling conflict. Wouldn’t it be another film?
Jenniffer is beautiful, the chemistry with Matthew is perfect and the film holds up even two decades later.
2- Monster In Law, 2005
After years of searching for Mr. Right, Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Cantilini (Lopez) finally meets the man of her dreams, Kevin Fields (Michael Vartan), only to discover that his mother (Jane Fonda) is the woman of her nightmares.
The chemistry between J-Lo and Jane Fonda is undeniable and the comedy is safe with several unlikely and fun situations, as this was Jane’s first film after a 15-year hiatus.
Nia Vardalos (My Greek Wedding) was even considered for the role of Charlie, just as Mark Ruffalo ended up turning down the role of Kevin, which makes gossip fans great material for coincidences.
First, Michael Vartan was engaged to Jenniffer Garner, who left him to marry Ben Affleck, who previously had been engaged to Jenniffer Lopez. And Ruffalo, who didn’t play a romantic role with J-Lo here, starred in 30 going to 13 with Garner a year earlier.
Light, very fun, Monster-in-Law has J-Lo in one of the roles where she seems most relaxed and funny.
3- Shotgun Wedding, 2022
The extravagant wedding of a couple (Lopez and Duhamel) is hijacked by criminals and they need to save their families and recover the relationship, which was shaken before the ceremony (and the kidnapping).
Seeing Jenniffer still focusing her story on wedding parties at age 50 is a bit tiring, but the film has its moments.
All recorded in a resort in the Dominican Republic, it stars Sonia Braga, Jenniffer Coolidge, and Lenny Kravitz, with J-Lo’s love interest, Josh Duhamel, being the third choice for the role. Ryan Reynolds, who is a producer, gave up the role, and Armie Hammer was removed due to personal problems. He did everything well, what’s really weak is the script.
4- Marry Me, 2020
The order here is not a preference. Everything that worked in The Wedding Planner fails here, even marking J-Lo’s on-screen reunion with Owen Wilson (the two starred in Anaconda together).
Kat Valdez (Lopez) is a Latin pop star who is about to marry her famous boyfriend at a live event. However, she discovers that she is being cheated on and randomly chooses a man from the audience, divorced mathematics professor Charlie Gilbert (Owen Wilson) to replace her fiancé. What begins as an impulsive reaction evolves into an unexpected romance.
What gets in the way of Marry Me are J-Lo’s various musical sequences, perhaps a preview of what he would present two years later with This Is Me… Now: A Love Story. In one of those ironies in the actress’s life, when she filmed it she was engaged to baseball star Alex Rodriguez, but the film was only released in theaters two years later when the actress had already teamed up with Ben Affleck, who accompanied her to the premiere. Casually, 20 years after breaking off their engagement, the two were married at the time of its release.
Will we see Jennifer Lopez in more wedding movies? Do you remember any others?
