Why are we still talking about the abuse against Sharon Stone?

I know that age helps to remember, but when Sharon Stone was the biggest star in Hollywood, in 1993, under the false “adjective” of “sexy symbol”, she was kind of “forced” to make a film exploring the same universe as title that made her famous, Basic Instinct. In this case, the detestable failed and embarrassed Sliver.

Interestingly, behind-the-scenes problems were never new, but in 2024, she returned to social media. Why are we still talking about Sharon Stone suffering from Hollywood’s sexist abuse and exploitation? Because she finally made it clear who the men were who dared to want her to have sex with her co-star so that the film would work. Yes, you read that right.

Biography and the “secret”

Sharon Stone had a long career in Hollywood but was short on fame. Although one of the most beautiful actresses of recent years, she exploded with Basic Instinct, starring in nude and sex scenes that omitted several of the most interesting aspects of the story and that turned her into one of the most famous women on the planet.

In 2021, after several health problems, Sharon released her biography, The Beauty of Living Twice, and spoke about the stroke that almost cost her life and how she is rebuilding her life. Faced with near death, Sharon reassessed her long and difficult journey in a toxic male universe such as Hollywood in a narrative that is transparent and bold for its sincerity.

Sharon was never one to mince words, that was her true beauty. However, many expected that in her book she would talk more about her career and relationships, but somehow, she doesn’t expand on the topics as much. Still, she uses her experience in some very powerful moments that caught her attention, because for Sharon they are stories that reinforce the resilience of women in Hollywood and because #metoo was and is so important.

These are even more shocking stories because they happened to a big star, you can only imagine how the industry worked. She mentions how “a director” refused to film her scenes if she wouldn’t sit on his lap. She managed to include approval clauses for nude and sex scenes only to have them ignored. of actors in their contracts were routinely ignored. And she was “advised” by a producer to sleep with one of her co-stars to establish on-screen chemistry. She doesn’t mention names, but anyone who follows her career knows exactly who she’s talking about. This week she broke the “secrecy” of this latest and most offensive story by naming the producer. And it became news.

Behind the scenes of Sliver: chaos and abuse

In 1993, Sharon was ready for new challenges, but the producers wanted to gain more from the nudity and sex scenes with her. Knowing that this was the case, the actress’ contract gave her approval for the most intimate scenes, since in Basic Instinct she had been tricked into recording the scene where she crossed her legs without panties without knowing that it would be used in the final version.

Sharon wasn’t the first choice for casting, and the script clearly had problems, but she ended up accepting the role. Her subsequent headaches were so public that they are now legendary.

After refusals from stars like Johnny Depp, the main male role went to William Baldwin, with whom Sharon immediately got on so bad that it was impossible to stifle the fights or have any chemistry on screen. Perhaps that’s why producer Robert Evans felt it necessary to interfere.

And here’s the surprise of the hour. In the book, Sharon Stone doesn’t mention him by name, but when she banned him from being on the sets while recording, wouldn’t that be a hint as to who the producer was? Because, she ALWAYS mentioned that when everyone saw that the film wasn’t working and that William wasn’t looking good in the role, the alternative they found was to ask the actress to have sex with him to perhaps convey some sign of intimacy to the screen.

You can read it again. Hollywood producers thought it was reasonable and possible to ask Hollywood’s biggest star of the day to have sex with her co-star to help make the film. 31 years later, it’s still shocking.

Obviously, she refused and the film is one of the worst of 1993, with many people placing the blame on HER shoulders, never on the men or the sexist and absurd story they tried to tell. William Baldwin, of course, denies that there is truth to this story and claims that Sharon flirted with him, but that it was HE who didn’t want to have an affair with her. The two hated each other so much that most of the sex scenes always had her with her back to him so that they wouldn’t kiss or even look at each other. Can you imagine working under these circumstances?

“He explained why I should fuck my co-star so we could have chemistry on screen,” she said on the podcast with Justin Theroux. “And we needed Billy to get better in the movie because that was the problem. If I just had sex with him, it would save the movie,” she continued.

But, thinking while listening to the “suggestion”, she thought: “You guys insisted on this actor when he couldn’t film an entire scene in the audition. Now do you think if I fuck him he’ll become a great actor? No one is that good in bed,” she amended.

I don’t know about you, but I’m laughing because I’m nervous. After all, I’m offended, and because Sharon, who told Evans to fuck off, still throws this in her face: no amount of sex guarantees anything. But what was worse: “I felt like they could have just hired a supporting actor with talent, someone who could deliver a scene and remember their lines, but it was my job to act,” she added.

“I didn’t have to fuck Michael Douglas [in Basic Instinct]. Michael could come to work and know how to hit those marks and do that line, rehearse, and show up. Now suddenly I’m in the business of having to fuck people?!”, she highlighted the absurdity.

So even though it is “old” news, it is still one of the most absurd Hollywood news of all time. And it hurts to have to say that Sharon Stone had even greater courage to refuse to do what was asked of her than to tell the story by naming names. I am a Sharon fan. Now more than ever.
