The recording of the series Dune: Prophecy, formerly Dune Sisterhood, is already in its final phase in Hungary, in the same studios where the film trilogy was filmed. Alongside the Game of Thrones and House of The Dragon franchise, having the Dune universe on Max’s schedule is another important product in the platform’s strategy. The premiere forecast is maintained for the end of 2024.
Based on the novel Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, the series covers the historical period before Dune 1 and 2, a period of great historical richness. The plot unfolds 80 years after the conclusion of the Battle of Corrin, which saw the machines being expelled, ending the Butlerian Jihad, and is when there is the formation of the Bene Gesserit, Mentats, and the Suk Doctors, which are the three Great Schools of Dune. Among the families, there is already antagonism between the Harkonnens and the Atreides, who work behind the scenes to influence politics and other matters that protect the future from devastation.

The plot of Brotherhood of Dune is full of political maneuvers, personal vendettas, and ideological battles, as the foundations of the ‘new’ world are laid. And in it, Travis Fimmel is back in a universe that could be a cousin to Raised by Wolves.
The actor plays Desmond Butler Hart, the president of the Butlerian movement, the crusade against thinking machines, which they believe subjugate and dehumanize individuals. Doesn’t he remind you of the interesting Marcus Drusus, the rebel who hated religion and technology with equal distrust?
Considering Travis Fimmel‘s talent, Hart will be a leader with flaws and strengths. Described in the book as zealous and charismatic, he gains supporters for the cause. His ultimate goal is to eradicate all forms of artificial intelligence to preserve human individuality and spirit.
Hart’s “problem,” again, compared to Raised by Wolves‘ Marcus Drusus, is the intransigence that reflects his dedication to AI. He is also seen as an excessively rigid man, but, at least in the book, he is the critical voice about the potential dangers of technological advancement when it threatens to overshadow human autonomy and freedom.
I’m not so worried about the similarities between characters because Marcus “goes crazy” in Raised by Wolves and here Desmond Hart’s fate is different, especially because he’s not the protagonist.

The main cast of the series is led by Olivia Williams who will play Tula Harkonnen, one of the first members of House Harkonnen and who murdered her husband, Orry Atreides, on their wedding night. Her older sister, Mother Superior Valya Harkonnen, the second Reverend Mother Superior of the Bene Gesserit Order, plays Emily Watson.
The Bene Gesserit Order operates in morally gray areas. It is a powerful and secret matriarchal order that trains its women to have the ability to control others through the “Voice”. They have a long-term plan to guide the evolution of humanity but use manipulative and secretive methods to achieve the goal.
There are differences between the announced roles and the book that will serve as the basis of the series, something that when they release the teaser we will find out. No matter what, though, the antagonism between the Harkonnens and the Atreides will already exist, with the animosity between the families fueled by what the Harkonnens consider the Atreides’ betrayal during the Butlerian Jihad. Killing one of them on their honeymoon won’t help, we can anticipate.
What will also be interesting will be following the trajectory of the Corrino family, the imperial dynasty that ruled the universe during the series. Mark Strong will play Emperor Javicco Corrino, who is the main voice in the government through a period of fragile Peace over the universe occupied by Humans but still facing threats from an anti-technology Butlerian movement (led by Demond Hart (Travis Fimmel)).
On the side of the “good guys”, the Atreides will have their greatest representative in Keiran Atreides (Chris Mason), as “a master swordsman” who “forms an unexpected connection with a member of the royal family”. Yes, it still sounds mysterious but that’s because – as mentioned – the intricate details of the plot of Dune: Prophecy is still unknown, but we can expect another – sorry for the obvious – “space Game of Thrones”.
The best-known rivalry, which follows the Harkonnen family’s struggle to reestablish their lost glory, will be orchestrated by Sister Valya Harkonnen (Emily Watson) but will have significant conflict when Princess Corrino (Sarah-Sofie Boussnina) is sent to Rossak to learn skills with the Bene Gesserit Brotherhood.
Intrigue and a great cast, 2024 couldn’t be more promising!
