For the passionate group of Peaky Blinders fans, who have passionately followed the development of the series inspired by a true story, the names of Cillian Murphy and Anna Taylor Joy have long been those of stars. The series went off the air in 2022, always with the promise of returning with a film, therefore the ending opens with Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) surviving yet another attempt by his enemies to end his life. But, as was always planned, the film is about the new generations of Shelbys and that will pay off big time!

Showrunner Steve Knight always warned that the story of Peaky Blinders would end in the Second World War, using the trauma of the men who fought in the first as a plot kickstart, but always ending in 1945. “Peaky [Blinders] – in this incarnation – arrives at the end,” he said in an interview with Birmingham World. “But we’re making a film that will continue the family and WWII stories,” he commented.

This means, as discussed here on the Blog in 2022, that the rivalry between Finn Shelby (Harry Kirton) and his nephew, Erasmus “Duke” Shelby (Conrad Khan), will determine the drama. Finn, Tommy’s younger brother, betrayed his family and caused the deaths of many loved ones. Duke was one of the surprises, discovered as Tommy’s illegitimate son, who was unaware of his existence. However, when he found out, he adopted him and placed him as his heir leading the Peaky Blinders’ business. There is also Charles Shelby, son of Tommy and Grace (Annabelle Wallis), whose tumultuous relationship with his father made him choose to accompany his stepmother, Lizzie Stark Shelby (Natasha O’Keefe) when she gives up on being by his father’s side.

And Tommy? Will we have Cillian Murphy back with the Oscars and the demand in Hollywood? Steven Knight says yes and it makes sense as Cillian was one of the producers of Peaky Blinders. “He’s definitely getting back into it. We’re shooting in September, near Digbeth,” said the showrunner in the same interview.
