The second part of The Jinx

Millionaire and murderer Robert Durst died on January 10, 2022, at age 78, in prison in California, serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Almost nine years after Max’s documentary, The Jinx, helped the courts arrest Durst, the platform resumes his story with The Jinx – Part 2, which premieres on April 21, 2024.

Durst’s life was linked to several violent and mysterious deaths, material that was used by Hollywood for films and documentaries, such as 2015. In it, tension grows when the team realizes in the middle of filming that Robert Durst is Susan Berman’s killer, and he unwittingly confesses to the crime when he forgets he has his microphone on. It is fascinating.

Robert’s life was retold in All Good Things, a 2010 film starring Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst. At the time he was free, having been cleared in the death of another man, never having been officially charged with the disappearance of his first wife, Kathie McCormack Durst, and having not been linked to the death of his friend, Susan Berman. In director Andrew Jarecki‘s version, Durst was guilty of ALL these deaths, and the millionaire himself sought him out to praise the film, thus creating the documentary The Jinx.

Given this involvement, it was expected that Jarecki would be closely linked to the topic. The second part, which premieres on MAX on April 21, 2024, brings together material from the last 8 years, with more evidence such as Durst’s prison calls and new interviews from witnesses who had not yet spoken. There will be six weekly episodes, where Andrew Jarecki reports on his investigation and promises to end once and for all one of the most unbelievable trajectories in real life. And who knows, maybe we’ll finally find the answers to how it all started.

With the death of Robert Durst, in 2022, as a result of COVID-19 and bladder cancer, there is greater legal freedom to talk about the murders and mysteries that marked his life, but it also makes it difficult to solve Kathie’s disappearance, since 1982. Her body was never found nor did Durst confess to enough information to solve the crime. As for Susan, although Durst’s defense team claimed that the documentary edited his confession, at the trial, Durst himself messed up and was convicted. Because he was over 75 years old and very ill, however, he did not live much longer.

So The Jinx – Part Two will have its own shadow to face: it will be difficult to top 2015’s incredible material, but on the other hand, it could bring closure to one of True Crime’s most bizarre and mysterious cases. And I won’t miss it for anything!
