Ryan Murphy‘s Feud franchise is one of the best in recent years. Simple and direct, it focuses on drama and disputes between famous and powerful people, which is, irresistible because it is true and always has an aspect of gossip involved.
The first season, Feud: Bette vs Joan, which premiered in 2017, took us behind the scenes of the film What Happened to Baby Jane with the great Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange playing rivals Bette Davis and Joan Crawford.

The seven-year hiatus until Feud: Capote vs. The Swans was due to several reasons: 1) Ryan was busy with his various Netflix projects and 2) The second season changed midway through the process. That’s right, what was announced would have been Feud: Diana vs Charles or Feud: Buckingham Palace, but it was precisely when The Crown arrived at the same stage in history, so when FX ruled out continuing with the theme, it never admitted the two most likely reasons (fear of legal action and competition), saying only that the material “didn’t get where we wanted”. Personally, I feel sorry to have missed Rosamund Pike as Diana, but I will use my imagination.
At the time, Ryan Murphy had announced that the second season would be a Royal Family drama, but the third would be about “two gay men”. Without going into details, speculation is running wild with three possibilities drawn by fans, taking into account the very evasive references of the two men in dispute.
Karl Lagerfeld v. Yves Saint Laurent
The main bet for years, but I suspect that currently with less chance precisely because this bullshit will be part of Hulu’s Lagerfeld series. But let’s get to the drama.
The two designers have stood out and competed forever, with victories in separate categories – but in the same year – in the International Wool Secretariat competition. Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent were in the same circle and precisely their passion for a common man intensified the mutual aversion that is legendary in the world of fashion. Let’s face it, it would be perfect for Feud, but it seems less likely now.
Gore Vidal v. William F. Buckley
William F. Buckley, a conservative, and Gore Vidal, an openly gay leftist writer, exchanged insults on TV that culminated in Buckley saying “Now listen, you faggot…” and that was it. The rivalry turned into hatred that lasted for decades, with legal proceedings and a lot of gossip. Gore was already mentioned in Capote vs. the Swans because he also tried to prosecute Truman. It seems possible to me, even because of everything that is still happening today.

George Cukor vs Cecil Beaton
Legendary photographer and costume designer Cecil Beaton was so praised for his work on My Fair Lady on Broadway that Audrey Hepburn brought him to Hollywood when she went to star in the film. He was even hired BEFORE the film’s director, George Cukor, who was also iconic. It was to be expected that three stars would get along well but behind the scenes, it was anything but smooth.
Beaton, inexperienced in film, drove the stars’ favorite director crazy with his interference in every aspect of the production, influencing Audrey. From the moment he delayed recording so he could take photos of the actress to when he put the star and director in disarray, everything happened. Cecil Beaton vowed never to work in Hollywood again and forever criticized George Cukor, claiming that the success of My Fair Lady was his.
I think it has everything to be the next season of Feud for bringing together everything that Ryan Murphy set out to do when creating this franchise. I’m cheering!
