Billie Eilish’s new album

Billie Eilish‘s third album was released today and social media is all over it. The confessional tones of the singer’s lyrics, always openly speaking about what she feels and thinks without hiding in coded quotes, make her an artist of courage and authenticity, even if musically her style is particular.

Billie and her brother, Finneas O’Connell are fans of a minimalist sound, which mixes Jazz, Bossa Nova, and electronic that works very well. The sound is cool, it’s refined and with Billie’s hoarse and “small”-looking voice, it’s perfect. Hit Me Hard and Soft does not disappoint.

The album is short, you can hear it complete in less than 45 minutes and it is much more ‘danceable’ than the previous ones, something that Billie “needed” to give more rhythm to the live shows.

Billie Eilish‘s Art is a continuous, tuned, and never obvious sigh. She remains an excellent lyricist and this is what makes her stand out in her generation. Her music will clearly survive time precisely because it talks about universal feelings. She talks to teenagers, and adults and ‘matures’ with the same effectiveness, which artist achieves such a feat today?

Her existential doubts, his sexual curiosities or even his loving honesty are refreshing in a world so studied. She sings about physical recriminations, depression, failed relationships, and fame, always reminding us that she lived with all of this before she was even a legal adult. After the great impact of Happier Than Ever, which followed the incredible When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, Hit Me Hard and Soft seems to be part of the artist’s same personal diary.

And Finneas O’Connell’s production continues to be the highlight. He creates a sound with subtlety and hidden details, exploring the nuances of his sister’s “small” voice to make her larger without scaring us. His mixing and his scratch choices keep us guessing and always delight us.

I’m a fan and I loved it. Have you liked it yet?
