The Duke of Hastings” disappearance. There is a novel that I would love to see resolved by Lady Whistledown in Bridgerton. The “disappearance” of none other than the major character, which made actor Regé-Jean Page a global superstar in 2020. However, as the story concluded, the excuses that he is busy and away were briefly given. The appearance of Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor), who is also strangely absent for a close-knit family like the Bridgertons. What’s going on with the Hastings Family?
Part of the beauty of Bridgerton is the continuity of the story and even more relevant: the cast. There is a clear difference in being able to survive the stories without bumping into the couple that drew us into this fantasy universe of Julia Quinn and that Netflix used brilliantly to make it inclusive, colorful, and fun.

What is the origin of the mystery?
Let’s get straight to the point: if he is a well-known actor today, Regé-Jean owes it to Bridgerton. ALL. He hadn’t had any prominence before and, unfortunately, not since. He has been on the list of possible James Bonds for four years, but he has not yet secured this role. Why, then, not even a cameo in the series that is so successful? Therein lies the mystery.
As reported two years ago, when it was imperative for the plot that the couple was on screen, it was announced that Daphne would appear, but not Simon. As Regé-Jean explained at the time, since signing the contract, he always planned to only be in one season, regardless of its success or not. Not even the global fever dissuaded him from this decision. Really?
“It’s an arc with a beginning, middle, and end. I found it interesting because it seemed like a miniseries. I get to contribute, and then the Bridgerton family moves on,” he told Variety magazine in 2021. It’s a bit strange to rush out of a big opportunity when every season, if you’re not the protagonist, only a few scenes would cover the plot.

As we saw, Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), the stars of the second season, appeared at the beginning of the third and did not participate in most of the series afterward, but they made the transition seem normal.
Was there any fuss behind the scenes?
Rumors of fights and stardom on the part of the actor were impossible to circulate, even though producer Shonda Rhimes confirmed that in fact the agreement was closed bearing in mind that the story of the Duke of Hastings would end – completely – in a single blow. After all, with Bridgerton, Regé-Jean was nominated for an Emmy!
Reports of creative differences between the actor and production surfaced, but they were never confirmed.
Only PageSix weighed in, commenting that the actor was disappointed in being turned into a supporting character and wanted something bigger. The opposite of what became the official discourse. And so, Bridgerton said goodbye to the Duke.
And where is “the Duke”?
Regé-Jean is busy, not staying at home. His appearances in films such as Dungeons and Dragons and The Gray Man will lead to sequels and he is in the cast of the series about Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and, even more so, recording with Steve Soderbergh, Black Bag, alongside Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett, between others.
In other words: if we miss Rege-Jean, the year to kill her will be 2025. But Bridgerton? It doesn’t seem to be on the Duke’s agenda…
