In just two days, the third and final season of Vikings: Valhalla, the not-so-successful attempt to follow the Vikings franchise, premieres. Even though it couldn’t be compared to its predecessor, Michael Hirst‘s text was missed, and the Netflix series had its moments.
Set more than 100 years after the events recounted in Vikings, we return to England, where tensions between the descendants of the Vikings (Norse or “Danes”) and the native English escalate to violence again, as well as between them, there is conflict over the religious differences between converts to Christianity and pagans.

In the second season, Sweyn Forkbeard (Søren Pilmark) recovers Kattegat from Olaf Haraldsson (Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson) and gives the crown to his teenage grandson Svein (Charlie O’Connor), but leaves Olaf as the boy’s protector. Of course, the villain will take advantage of the situation.
Our favorite couple, Freydís Eiríksdóttir (Frida Gustavsson) and Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter) recover from the attack at the end of season 1 and live happily alone in the countryside, but since he still dreams of becoming king and she doesn’t want Christian children, they separate, without him knowing that she is pregnant. Just Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett) when he finds them.
Olaf remains obsessed with killing Freydís, but with the help of Jorundr (Stanislav Callas) and the Jomsviking pirates, she escapes and takes refuge with followers of the old ways on the other side of the sea, while Harald and Leif leave for Novgorod, to ask their uncle for help. of Harald, Prince Yaroslav (Marcin Dorociński), to secure Harald’s claim to the crown.

Freydís ends up becoming a great leader in Jomsborg, where she is named high priestess. Yes, she (finally!) kills Olaf. We said goodbye to her when she returned to Kattegat, more certain than ever of her destiny as Guardian of the Faith.
In Rus, Harald and Leif accept the mission to transport Lord Vitomir (Steven Brand) and his daughter Elena (Sofya Lebedeva) to Constantinople, where they will be well paid. Of course, the adventure is full of challenges, and Leif falls in love with Mariam (Hayat Kamille), who teaches him to read and write and gain greater knowledge. Unfortunately, Mariam is terminally ill and does not complete the trip, but gives Leif the key to her house. Harald, who does not know that Freydís had his son, becomes involved with Elena, who reveals herself to be a princess and fiancée of the Emperor of Constantinople, Argyros (Nikolai Kinski). Harald is desperate when he finds out about his son, but he doesn’t know where Freydís is and, to be close to Elena, he agrees to work for the emperor, which means he can be close to her.

In England, following the real story, we follow the rise of Godwin of Essex (David Oakes), the series’ main antagonist. In the absence of Canute (Bradley Freegard), he maintains a secret relationship with Ælfwynn (Maria Guiver), one of Queen Emma’s (Laura Berlin) ladies-in-waiting, who realizes his entire strategy, including that it is Eke who is behind the attack on your life. Unfortunately, she doesn’t convince Canute of the truth, and, to make matters worse, Godwin marries the Viking’s niece, the young Gytha (Henessi Schmidt). As she is of royal blood, if she has a son, he will also be in the line of succession and that is the true plan of her son will have the right to the throne, which is Godwin’s deepest desire. And this is one of the main clashes of the final season!
Through the images released, we will see Harald’s true adventure before becoming king of Norway, alongside the Greek general Georgios Maniakes, who reconquered Sicily from the Arabs, assisted by the Viking and the Varangian Guard. We’ll talk about him in a separate post, but for now, it’s time to celebrate another round with the Vikings. Skoll!
