A new character joins House of the Dragon on Sunday and no, we won’t be enjoying her appearance. Trans actress Abigail Thorn joins the cast as Commander Sharako Lohar, the Triad admiral who will cause a significant loss for Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy). Yes, Sharako will take part in the Battle of the Gullet and will have a future asset in her hands to return to the story.
What do we know about Sharako Lohar?
In the book Blood and Fire, Sharako is a man, but her gender is changed for the series. She will lead the fleet of 90 ships that unite men from the cities of Myr, Lys, and Tyrosh to help the Greens in the Civil War against the Blacks. Their goal was to break through the sea blockade led by the Velaryon fleet, but they ended up achieving more than that.
Courageous, determined, and charismatic, Sharako enters the story by accepting the agreement proposed by Otto Hightower (Rhys Iphans) to help them (although in season 1 the Three Daughters’ fleet was an enemy of the Kingdom) and Tyland Lannister (Jefferson Hall), as ordered by Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) will rescue the agreement and close it (being attacked and thrown into the mud by Sharako). And in the confrontation that follows at sea, we will witness one of the bloodiest naval battles of the series, just as princes Aegon III and Viserys II are being taken to Pentos.
The Three Daughters’ fleet attacks with ninety warships (only 28 survive) and amid everything, Aegon III manages to escape, but Viserys II disappears and Jacaerys (Harry Corlett) dies trying to save his brothers.
What happens to Viserys is important: he is presumed dead and Rhaenyra will end her days believing that she has lost four of her five boys: Lucerys, Jacaerys, Joffrey, and Viserys. But, to the surprise of many, Viserys does not die but is taken captive by his enemies.
It is a Tyroshi captain who guards the prince, but when Sharako Lohar finds out, she at once takes care of the child. No, it is not because she has any empathy, but because she sees in Viserys a way to make money and wants a reward in gold, she SELLS him in exchange for gold, measured by the prince’s weight. That’s right, Viserys will spend his childhood kidnapped and imprisoned by enemies of Westeros, only returning home when his brother Aegon III is king, but all the others have died, including his mother and father (Daemon (Matt Smith)). I don’t think we’re going to like Sharako Lohar.
Sharako’s end is tragic. She will be accused in Myr and Tyrosh of having protected Lys by using others as bait and shield in battle and loses her leadership in the Triarchy as a consequence. And, years later, she is assassinated by one of her rivals in favor of the courtesan known as the Black Swan.
The important thing is to know how vital she will be to our farewell to Jace, as well as how we will worry about little Viserys.
Who is Abigail Thorn?
Born in 1993 in England, Abigail became famous on YouTube with her YouTube channel Philosophy Tube, in 2013, where she gave free philosophy classes, giving an updated and more social reading of theories, mixing developments in contemporary politics.
From 2018 onwards, she became more theatrical and reached more than 800 thousand subscribers, participating in charity events and pursuing an acting career.
Having publicly assumed that she was a transgender woman in January 2021, Abigail is also in the cast of Acolyte. Her participation in House of the Dragon was much celebrated by her (below). Will we approve?
