If there is one thing that prevents me from loving Rings of Power, it is the Galadriel that was introduced in the 1st season. Her leadership and superiority, unlike what we saw with Cate Blanchett in Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, was arrogant, obsessive, and aggressive, something I did not expect from an elf. Okay, we are seeing how she got there, but the actress Morfydd Clark, who resembles Cate, does not have an ounce of the charisma of the Australian star and this is fatal for the series.

That said, I was hoping that Galadriel, after so much confusion and even having saved Sauron, in the role of Hallbrand (Charlie Vickers, he is very good in the role), that is, the blame for everything can be placed on her shoulders.
I am exaggerating, of course. But the thing is that at the end of the month, we will have the second season and just what I saw of Galadriel in the teaser irritated me again. How, after all this, is she still going to wear the ring created by Sauron? There she is, all smart-ass and doing nonsense.
The complex relationship between Galadriel and Hallbrand
In the work of J.R.R. Tolkien, specifically in The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings, Galadriel and Sauron have an antagonistic relationship. After all, Galadriel is the force of light, wisdom, and resistance against the darkness, deceit, and tyranny of Sauron. And, according to the Rings of Power series, an unresolved crush too.

Galadriel is an extraordinarily powerful and ancient elf, one of the leaders of the rebellion against Morgoth, Sauron’s original master. She is a member of the Noldor, an elven people known for their wisdom and skill, who live in Lothlórien, a beautiful and magical forest kingdom.
Sauron, on the other hand, is a Maia, a lesser divine being who served Morgoth before becoming the Dark Lord himself. He created the One Ring to control the other Rings of Power and dominate Middle-earth. Galadriel’s ring, one of the three Elven Rings of Power, is called Nenya.
We’ll see in the second season how Sauron tricks the Elves into creating the Rings of Power. Galadriel, along with others like Elrond (Robert Aramayo, who stars in the series) and Gil-galad (Benjamin Walker), who don’t trust Hallbrand, will keep their distance. Galadriel is the only one who knows Sauron’s true identity and will be crucial in resisting his influence.

The series is set many years before The Lord of the Rings, when the mature Galadriel actively opposes Sauron, providing the Fellowship of the Ring with gifts crucial to their survival, as well as advice. She resists the temptation of the One Ring when Frodo offers it to her, demonstrating her strength and determination against Sauron’s power. In the end, Sauron’s power is broken and Middle-earth is saved.
But even knowing about Sauron, why does she wear the ring?
Unaware that Sauron has a ring that controls the others, Galadriel agrees to wear one of the Three Rings of Power, Nenya, for several reasons, all of them significant.
The first is for Preservation and Protection: the Three Rings, unlike the One Ring and the other Rings of Power, were created by the Elves themselves without Sauron’s direct involvement (although he did have a hand in their design). Nenya, the Ring of Water, is given to Galadriel to help preserve and protect her kingdom of Lothlórien. Nenya’s power allows her to keep the beauty and timelessness of her domain, protecting it from the decay of time and the encroaching darkness.

Second, it is a form of Resistance to Sauron because, with Nenya, Galadriel can use her power to resist Sauron’s influence. Although the One Ring had the potential to overpower the Three, the Elves who bore them, including Galadriel, used their rings to oppose Sauron’s will and protect their people and lands from his tyranny.
The third reason is Responsibility: as a leader and protector of her people, the elf sees it as her duty to use Nenya for the greater good. The ring enhances her abilities to protect Lothlórien and its inhabitants, providing a sanctuary in the increasingly dark world of Middle-earth.
Finally, for the sake of Hope and Vision for the Future. After all, Galadriel believes in the eventual downfall of Sauron and the restoration of peace to Middle-earth. As Nenya helps to keep Lothlórien as a place of beauty and refuge, it also keeps alive the hope that a better future is possible.

But, Galadriel also understood the risks and responsibilities that came with wearing the ring. In The Fellowship of the Ring, she is tempted by the One Ring when Frodo offers it to her, but she ultimately rejects it, demonstrating her wisdom and strength. She recognizes that although she used Nenya for good, the One Ring would corrupt her, turning her into a dark and terrible queen.
In short, Galadriel agreed to use the Ring of Power, Nenya, to preserve and protect her kingdom, resist Sauron’s influence, fulfill her responsibilities as a leader, and keep hope for a future free from darkness.
Will we ever see do we see this on the screens?
