House of the Dragon: Season 3’s Major Events

Starting on August 4, 2024, we return to the long night and wait for the return of the warlike Targaryens, who in the best-case scenario will meet us again in April 2026. Season 4 has not yet been confirmed, but it is still extremely possible.

Considering what was included in season 2, with 2 episodes less than season 1, we can start speculating what should be included in season 3, using the same 8 base episodes and imagining the general outline of the season.

Episode 1

We open with the Battle of Red Fork, where Jason Lannister is mortally wounded.

With the support of the Triarchy, increasing their advantage at sea, the Greens attack the Velaryon fleet. Unfortunately, as they were on their way to Pentos, the ship where Aegon IV and Viserys II were on was targeted by the enemy, and Aegon escaped, but Viserys was captured.

Daeron Targaryen, the youngest son of Alicent and Viserys, who was in Old Town separated from his brothers, saves Ser Ormund Hightower in a great battle of Honeywine.

Episode 2

The Battle of the Gullet, where we say goodbye to Jacaerys. The news of Jace’s death transforms the shaken and sad Rhaenyra into a cold and bloodthirsty woman who decides to end the Greens. No matter the cost.

Episode 3

Corlys asks Rhaenyra to recognize Addam and his brother Alyn as true Velaryons, and names Addam heir to Driftmark.

Hugh and Ulf show greater ambitions than serving Rhaenyra, as everyone feared.

Episode 4

At Rook’s Rest, men die trying to kill the wounded Sunfyre, who then disappears without a trace. The dragon will not be seen again for a while.

Aemond remains obsessed with facing Daemon and taking Harrenhal. So, accompanied by Ser Criston Cole and an army of four thousand men, he leaves the capital and goes to the riverlands.

We now know that Alicent betrayed her son because Daemon knew of his nephew’s plans in advance and, riding Caraxes, leaves the castle. Aemond and Criston find Harrenhal empty and believe themselves victorious. Alys Rivers and Aemond meet and she seduces him.

Episode 5

The Battle of Lakeshore, one of the bloodiest and without dragons, with the victory of the allies of the Blacks.

With King’s Landing unprotected, Daemon and Caraxes join Rhaenyra in Syrax and together they fly over the capital, while Corlys Velaryon’s ships sail to Blackwater Bay. The city gates are opened to the Blacks and Rhaenyra finally sits on the Iron Throne (being wounded in the legs and hands).

Episode 6

The entire green council surrenders. Aegon is nowhere to be found.

Alicent and Helaena are spared, but the others are executed on Rhaenyra’s orders, Ser Otto is beheaded, but Ser Tyland Lannister is tortured to reveal the location of the Crown’s fortune, hidden elsewhere. Rhaenyra orders her two sons, Aegon and Joffrey, to be brought to her side. She believes Viserys to be dead.

Episode 7

Ulf and Hugh want important castles and more prestige, which Daemon supports, but Rhaenyra refuses. This leaves both of them angry with the Queen and considering other alternatives.

At Harrenhal, under Alys’ influence, Aemond and Criston can’t agree on the best course of action. Criston wants to join Lord Ormund Hightower and Prince Daeron Targaryen, while Aemond wants to attack King’s Landing. The impasse definitively divides the Green Force. Criston does what he thinks is best, and Aemond stays at Harrenhal, hoping that Rhaenyra will send Daemon after him.

Episode 8

Although this negotiation in the book was brought send to the end of Season 2, let’s consider that Alicent still tries once again to negotiate with Rhaenyra, to spare the lives of Aemond and Daeron. Now with only two of her five children alive, Rhaenyra is even more hardened and rejects the terms, reminding Alicent that everything changed when they stole her birthright and took the lives of her children.

At Dragonstone, Larys enters the empty castle and positions Aegon where Rhaenyra would never have thought to look for him. And yes, Sunfyre is with him.
