The fourth season of Only Murders in the Building makes the lack of faith that the person who gave the title to the series even more uncomfortable when they needed to find the name. The premise of three neighbors, fans of true crime podcasts (a craze) who come together to solve a murder in their own building, creating an amateur podcast, didn’t need to be so restricted to the address or city.
Sure, placing Steve Martin and Martin Short alongside Selena Gomez was no guarantee of success, but obviously if it worked out – as it did – they are now stuck with Arconia to justify the name of the series and this is bringing them down. First, as I always say, even in New York having four deaths in the same building would destroy the real estate value of the address and it would be extremely implausible for it to happen again with the same frequency. But ok, they held on to the first two and in the third, already going to a theater on Broadway, they had the murdered actor (Paul Rudd) subletting Sting’s apartment. The fourth has another crime in the same building, the stuntwoman and friend of Charles, Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch), but our trio of podcasters will first end up in Hollywood! But they have to go back to Arconia to solve another crime.

Look, going from the Upper West Side to the Theater District made sense. Leaving New York for Los Angeles already seems a bit complex. What’s more, it’s seeing a ton of comedians joining the cast. The plot is as follows: to find out whether they want to kill Sazz or Charles, the three go to Los Angeles, where a Hollywood studio is preparing a movie about the podcast. It will be a season that promises to be “epic”.
As a passionate fan, I’m worried because even if it’s the harbinger of the end, I wanted the soul of the series to be protected. We’ll have three actors – Zach Galifianakis, Eugene Levy, and Eva Longoria – playing our main trio, which means twice as many inside jokes and mutual “tributes.” If that weren’t enough, we’ll have Melissa McCarthy as Steve Martin’s sister, whose loneliness was implicit in being a man without a family: where does that come from? And I’ve never seen Melissa as a supporting character; she’ll grow up and make the series more of a vehicle for her, which would be cool if it weren’t a series without Melissa.

Meeting Meryl Streep (SPOILER, we’re going to have a wedding!) and the neighbors of Arconia is cool, it makes sense, but deja vu. There are only a few days left to figure it out. Will I bite my tongue?
