Character Crossover: The Possible Meeting of Sex and The City and Emily in Paris

For years, I have defended here at Miscelana a crossover of characters that are from different franchises, but from the same creator: Sex and The City and Emily in Paris. Not only am I not alone, but I also have the support of part of the cast of EIP, as actor Lucas Bravo made clear in the interview that has been circulating on social media for days.

“We talked about having Kim Cattrall, expressing her presence in Emily in Paris,” he told the website IMDB when asked about potential crossovers, making it clear that he still hopes that it will become a reality. “But that would imply that there is a substantial role for her to take on, and also [for] her to say yes to this idea. But I have been floating around all day and dreaming about this opportunity and I hope it happens.”

Lucas is not alone and has the support of Lily Collins herself, who agrees with the obvious similarity of soul (and author) between the two franchises.

On paper, it makes even more sense: the alternative that And Just Like That found to justify the absence of Samantha Jones – due to Kim’s disagreement with Sarah Jessica Parker – was to transfer her to London. That’s right, Samantha is closer to Emily Cooper than Carrie Bradshaw. And since Emily works in Marketing, her profession also brings her closer to Samantha, who is in Public Relations.

Now the impediments. Yes, Lucas is right, unless it is just a small and occasional participation – which for me would be enough – inserting Samantha into Emily’s plot would unbalance the dynamics already established between the characters. In other words: Kim Cattrall would come in as the star, to share Lily Collins’ space and there are many red flags for this possibility.

The other and main one: although Darren Starr is the creator of both franchises, they are on competing platforms, Netflix and Max, which may be contractually prohibitive. In the past, it would be. Today? I see it more as a great opportunity, but it would depend on whether executives agree.

In the meantime, dreaming doesn’t cost anything, right?
