Oasis’ return: definitely or maybe?

Yes, a weekend of several true announcements. For fans of Oasis, the band that marked the 1990s and split in 2009, we have been waiting for 15 years for the Gallagher brothers to resolve the issues between them so that they could finally share the stage and play together again. It seems – once again – to be close to the truth.

Of course, it started with a post by Liam Gallagher. “I never liked that word FORMER”, he said cryptically.

But this time, it seems that the agreement between them is closer because it is the week in which the album Definitely, Maybe turned 30 and also marked 15 years since the band’s last performance in the United Kingdom, on August 22, 2009. The fact that Noel Gallagher recorded a video about the recording in which he praises Liam, is something we rarely hear him do. “When I sang a song, it sounded good. When he sang, it sounded great,” he said. It doesn’t even seem like the same guy who just 5 years ago complained about the lack of sophistication in his brother’s music and even said “I can’t stand his voice.”

Given this unexpected affection, the amounts on the table (they speak of astronomical figures) and – of course – the time, all British publications suggest that Oasis will return for a few shows in 2025: at Heaton Park and Wembley Stadium, respectively. And why next year? It’s been 30 years since What’s the Story Morning Glory?, the album that turned them into global rock stars.

Oasis‘ breakup is part of a very public family drama, but it only fueled the legend surrounding the band that today, despite being separated for over a decade, has 21 million monthly listeners on Spotify. There are a whole bunch of kids who grew up watching their parents idolize the Gallaghers and want to see the energy of the two on the same stage.

Just like the announcement of Ted Lasso‘s return, it’s not official yet. What’s missing is for Liam and Noel to speak out openly about the issue. And yes, we’ve been here before. Liam, who in addition to Noel, fought with his (now ex) sister-in-law on social media, even said that she wouldn’t let Noel back. Since the marriage is over, in theory, Noel can now do whatever he wants.

In recent years, Liam has returned to singing Oasis songs in his shows, such as the one he did in Brazil in 2022, in São Paulo (spectacular, by the way). Just like with Noel, even with new songs, it is the band’s songs that spark the biggest reaction in the audience. No one is fooled: everyone wants the two of them back together and they will become even more millionaires if they get back together, even if it is for specific shows.

There is speculation about who will be in the band with the two of them, but first, we need confirmation. Is it definitely or is it maybe? Even though I can’t go, I’m rooting for them!

Here is a video of Noel in Rio, at Oasis‘ last performance in Brazil, in 2009. It’s time for an update.

And Liam, in São Paulo.
