I’ve already watched the penultimate episode of Only Murders In the Building and I’m not giving any spoilers because none of them would help with a theory. Of my suspects, two haven’t appeared before the 5th episode so I’ll try to protect my theories that aren’t consistent.
In “Perfect Strangers” – the name of the episode – there are several dualities: it’s the name of the series theme song, which in Brazil was Primo Cruzado, a mega-hit from the 1980s to the early 1990s, and which is the password for amateur radio; it also translates as “perfectly strange” which is what the neighbors of Arconia are and, even more, it reflects the work that actors call “shadowing”, that is, learning from the source they will play in a biographical work of people they are not close to. And maybe it’s a clue as to who the killer is. Could it be?

Still, the subject of the series was about an American from the Midwest moving to the house of his distant cousin from the Mediterranean. Keep this tip for a theory I’m still developing…
In today’s episode, our trio of podcasters has an obstacle to continuing the investigation: the Hollywood stars who will play them are glued to them to “shadow” the characters. Of course, they will paradoxically help and hinder.
We pick up where we left off, with Detective Williams (Da’Vine Joy Randolph), still angry with the podcasters but also involved, so when the FBI excludes her from the investigation, she decides to help Charles, Mabel, and Oliver since, as she says, three seasons later, she knows that nothing will stop them from getting involved.
The FBI insists on the simplest theory that Jan hired someone to carry out the murder, which was once mine, but with this, we know that she is excluded. The agents found a bullet casing in the apartment belonging to “M. Dudenoff,” a retired professor whose neighbors claim to be in Portugal (where, if you recall, the ham in their bathroom is from). Keep an eye out for Dudenoff, played by Griffin Dunne, because his involvement will be explained later.
More importantly, Williams reveals that the “Christmas All the Time Guy” only heard the bullet because the other neighbors were playing a card game. We already know the game, right? Anyway, each “with their own actor,” the podcasters continue trying to tie together the clues they gathered with Sazz’s notes and the information they gathered.

Charles, with Eugene Levy, visits “Pink Eye Joe” and after much confusion, concludes that he is not a suspect. Mabel and Eva Longoria go after the “Christmas All the Time Guy,” who could have wanted to kill Charles for trying to ban natural Christmas trees in Arconia, but they also rule him out. And Oliver, well, with Zach Galifianakis despising the role, spends the episode trying to win over the actor.
An important and undeveloped clue is the photo with all the Westies and someone unidentified with a scratched face holding the piggy. Could it be Dudenoff?
The connection is the password for the amateur radio that uses the opening theme of Perfect Strangers and whose female voice warns podcasters: be careful because the last person who asked questions ended up dead. Could it be Sazz?
The highlight of the episode (and the season!) is the hilarious Eva Longoria, comfortable with the humor and challenges of “Mabel”, who is more determined than Selena Gomez’s Mabel. Our “Maibel” offers herself as bait for Dudenoff to reappear (occupying her apartment in the West tower). Let’s see how it works…
