On October 10, it will be 20 years since the death of actor Christopher Reeve, whose image for three generations is very distinct, but, for Generation X, he is the definitive Superman. There has been and will be, no replacement, no matter how good the eternal favorite of social media Henry Cavill has pleased or Brandon Routh or Dean Cain have tried, and even more so David Corenswet may be. The other image of Reeve, the one that marked his last years, was of him paralyzed from the neck down, after an accident in a horse riding competition. On this sad anniversary, his children decided to change the narrative and forever mark the perfect union of Superman and Man with a documentary that has moved the world: Superman/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story.

It’s hard to watch the clips from the film without crying, and the Reeve family gives us access to intimate and never-before-seen footage of their father, emotional testimonies, and a perfect film worthy of the star whose unpredictable and tragic trajectory is so inspiring.
The accident happened 29 years ago, in a fall that was not violent, but fatal. The actor, who began his career in theater in the 1970s, became a worldwide star when he was chosen to play Clark Kent on the big screen. At just 24 years old, the unknown actor starred in Superman, the 1978 film that brought the hero to the big screen and which featured Gene Hackman and Marlon Brando in the cast.
For many years, the weight of the DC Comics character’s cape was not appreciated because even though he starred in dramas on stage and on screen, he was always called Superman and his personality and life could not be further from the heroism that was expected of him. Even so, Reeve starred in three other films, albeit reluctantly. Although the sequels had problems, the 1978 film is considered a classic. And Warner will bring it back to movie theaters for all generations who didn’t have the opportunity to see it on the big screen. And it’s advisable to take advantage of the chance!
The film will only be available between September 26 and October 2, anticipating the arrival of the documentary, which premieres on October 17.

The 1978 film is directed by Richard Donner and has among its screenwriters none other than Mario Puzo, the author of The Godfather. It portrays the origin of the hero, from how he arrived on Earth, his youth in the rural town of Smallville to his disguise as the reporter Clark Kent, where he got involved with Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) and fought the villain Lex Luthor (Hackman).
At the time, Superman was the most expensive film made in Hollywood to date, costing more than 55 million dollars. It grossed more than 300 million in its first year. Everything is perfect in the film, including the unforgettable soundtrack by John Williams. And, after being introduced to Christopher Reeve here, you will have another perspective on his importance and struggle, which will be in the documentary. We will talk more about this topic!
