I’ve been meaning to talk about Agatha for months, I’ve been waiting for her official return and it’s today, on Disney Plus. I love Agatha and I LOVE Kathryn Hann, so I’ll make that clear. Will she have the magic to change Marvel’s somewhat low tide?
Agatha All Along marks the return of Agatha Harkness, one of the most powerful centuries-old witches on earth, who often serves as a tutor to humans and mutants gifted with magic or great power.
Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1970, she first appeared in Fantastic Four #94 as the nanny of Franklin Richards, son of Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic) and Susan Storm (the Invisible Woman) of the Fantastic Four. And for the most recent ones, we saw her in WandaVision, unforgettable, of course.

The centuries-old witch is one of Marvel’s most powerful, capable of manipulating magical forces, teleporting, projecting energy, causing illusions, and summoning extra-dimensional entities. The advantage of having an actress like Kathryn Hahn in the role is that she has humor and empowerment, undoubtedly making her more likable as well.
In WandaVision, Agatha was disguised as Agnes, a seemingly harmless and helpful neighbor of Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), in Westview, only revealing her true identity at the end. The surprise was that Agatha Harkness was the true manipulator behind the distorted events in the city.
The difference in the series compared to the comics is that originally she was supposed to be a mentor to Wanda Maximoff, helping her understand and control her magical powers. But that’s not what we saw. Agatha had connections with Wanda’s twins, Billy and Tommy, and brought Pietro (Evan Peters) into the world, among other important moments, but since she was the first to discover that Wanda, also known as Scarlet Witch, had enchanted the town of Westview, she used the information to her advantage. In the end, in a duel of powers, Agatha fell under a spell imposed by Wanda that transformed her into the girl next door forever.

Having Agatha with her own series in the MCU universe expands the role of witches and creates opportunities for more magic in the different multiverses. In the first season of her series, three years after her duel with Scarlett Witch, Agatha Harkness is tired and without powers, but determined to regain what she once had and is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve it.
When a suspicious gothic teenager helps her free herself from a twisted spell, Agatha’s interest is piqued and he begs her to take him on the legendary Witch’s Path, a magical challenge of trials that will reward the surviving witch with what she lacks. Together, Agatha and this mysterious young man gather a desperate coven and set out on their journey.
There will be only 9 episodes, every Wednesday. Let the magic begin!
