The trailer for Maria, the biopic of Maria Callas with Angelina Jolie, shows scenes of the actress playing the soprano for the first time.

“Maria, what do you want to sing today?”, the pianist asks Callas (Jolie), on an empty stage. To the sound of an orchestral melody by Vissi D’Arte, we see a series of images of her glorious in the theater, with Onassis, in Paris, suffering, being flattered…

“Not today”, she concludes as she leaves the scene.

The trailer is powerful, but I confess, I don’t see Callas on the scene, only Angelina and the signature cough she gives at the end leaves me less encouraged by such a captivating interpretation as announced. And I LOVE Angelina, I believe she will put on a show, but she is not and will not be Maria Callas.

I will be able to clear up my doubts when the film is released in Brazil, in November. For now, we’ll stick with the trailer.
