Rings of Power and the epic battle before the new hiatus

With the undeniable flaws that Rings of Power still has, no one can deny that in terms of battle, the series has reached the same level as Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. What an episode! Shall we use the word common? Yes, epic applies here.

Celebrimbor finishes the nine rings but is still trapped in the parallel reality created by Sauron. In a fleeting glimpse of reality, he begins to suspect what is really happening. Naturally, too late, which only increases the drama of his fragile attempt to face the villain. In fact, so far only Adar has advanced in his plans because he is in Sauron’s interest, even if he doesn’t know it.

It is complex to try to summarize a dense and visually stunning episode like this one, which is the penultimate of the second season. The fact that we know that any effort to fight the villain is futile hinders a lot, but the actors try their best.

Let’s separate into characters so we don’t keep going back and forth. Adar surrounds Eregion and keeps Galadriel captive, but he wants her ring to face Sauron. When he makes it clear to the Elves that he will kill their heroine if necessary, Elrond says that he can move on because he won’t give up the ring. He manages to help his friend escape, kissing her to distract everyone from the fact that he is playing a trick on her to get her chains off. That said, the freedom to create a climate between them knowing that Elrond is going to marry Galadriel’s daughter is only surpassed by the fact that they clearly put the elf in a romance with Sauron. Have I mentioned that I hate Galadriel today?

In the end, more by “luck” – actually part of Sauron’s manipulation – Adar “wins”, causing great losses on the elven side.

Arondir, of course, has incredible action scenes, including helping Galadriel escape, but when he faces Adar he seems to be mortally wounded. To be confirmed.

Celimbrimbor, as I mentioned, discovers that he is trapped and has been tricked into creating rings of power that will be used for evil purposes. He tries to warn the others, but after weeks of acting like a madman, no one takes him seriously. After much death and violence, Sauron offers to save Eregion if he finishes the nine rings. With little choice, Celebrimbor accepts, but in truth, he wants to prevent the villain from winning and cuts off his own finger to escape. When he is caught again, he is saved by Galadriel, to whom he gives the rings of men and promises to “buy time” for her to escape. He tries once more to kill Sauron but discovers that Sauron has manipulated all the rings (except the one of the Elves) and controls – literally – all of them. This makes sense in Khazad-dûm. Before going to Egerion, Elrond risks speaking to Durin IV and asking for the help of the dwarves. The two agree to an alliance, but Durin III decides to release the Balrog, and so the prince must choose. Unfortunately, he leaves Elrond waiting for reinforcements that never arrive because he has to try to prevent the destruction of Khazad-dûm. He will lose everything and everyone, we know.

Elrond is the great hero of the episode, fighting, negotiating, and inspiring everyone. But he depended on Durin IV’s help and ended up devastated and defeated, with Adar managing to capture Galadriel’s ring. He swam and died on the beach…

Next week we will say goodbye to Middle Earth for another two years. At least this time we will miss it!
