What to Expect from Dune: Prophecy

MAX has set the release date for Dune: Prophecy for November 17, starting the countdown to what promises to be one of the year’s highlights. The prequel to the film trilogy is an “interplanetary Game of Thrones” and the platform is no slouch when it comes to bringing together politics, revenge and succession. All of which are highlighted in the trailer.

The cast, led by the always charismatic Travis Fimmel and the dark Emily Watson – as enemies – make us feel the intensity and tension of the story, although the less initiated will have difficulty identifying all the characters in the few minutes. It doesn’t matter, the quality of the acting and production are undeniable.

The series will only have six episodes, which is already the current rule for each season. And the expectation is huge because it is a project that took five years to reach the screens.

The prequel to the films will explain the rivalry between Houses Atreides and Harkonnen, at a time when it is more complex to say who is really the antagonist of whom.

An advantage for fans is that visually Dune: Prophecy is in line with the trilogy because it uses the same locations and has little computer graphics, preferring to adapt and create real scenarios.

The official trailer shown highlights the religious leadership of Valya Harkonnen (Emily Watson), who omits her true ambitions, which she defines as “advancing our species and ruling the future”. Although many faces parade among grandiose images, we see that the Emperor, played by Mark Strong, feels isolated and insecure about maintaining control (giving a big spoiler about his future) and that Travis Fimmel, as Desmond Hart, will be relentless against his enemies, including the Sisterhood of women who are training a generation of powerful female mystics.

It hasn’t even premiered and I can already tell that we’re rooting for a second season!
