The Tarot Game of Agatha All Along

In episode 7, Lilia Calderu (Patti Lupone) is forced to judge the group with tarot cards, which literally define the characters’ life or death.

There are several ways to read tarot, whether with the Marseille or Gypsy deck and in the case of Agatha All Along, it is a deck created for the series: The Game of Safe Passage.

There are six cards:

The 1st house is about the client’s journey. It is in the middle. It is the passenger.

The 2nd house is the reason for what is missing, the reason for the journey (it is on top of the 1st).

The 3rd house, which is on the bottom right, is the past, the lessons learned.

The 4th house, on the bottom left, is about what will be learned in the future. What needs to be learned.

The 5th house is the card of obstacles.

The 6th house, on the right, is the unexpected potential.

To “win” and reach the destination – the 1st house with a new card – you need to overcome all.

As Lilia warns, tarot demands concentration and time. The client needs to mix the cards and make the cut. In this case, Billy.

His question is: Am I Billy Maximoff or William Kaplan.

In the 1st house, it is the Magician. Who represents Billy perfectly, “because he has all the skills to make the journey and he is a true magician, a wizard”, explains tarot reader and CLAUDIA columnist Cris Paixão.

In the 2nd house, it is the Sun. “Good luck, joy, reunion”, says Lilia. For Cris Paixão, Billy literally does not have Light and Optimism. Instead, for him, it is reuniting with Tommy who led him on the journey.

But we stop the game there, Lilia realizes that the judgment is hers, therefore she is the traveler.

In house 1, she draws The Queen of Hearts. “She is the same, a kind person”, confirms Cris, who emphasizes that the images in the series, are inspired by those of Rider Waite and created especially for Agatha All Along. For example, the Queen of Hearts is a little different in the official deck.

In house 2, Three of Pentacles. “It is the team card with everyone working together”, explains Cris. Therefore, what led Lilia on the journey was being in a coven and connected with other witches. “Unique voices waiting to harmonize”, says Lilia in the series.

In house 3, The Page of Wands is the house of what was left behind. In this case, the sacrifice made by Alice, whose element of fire is the essence of this card.

In house 4, ahead (that is, the next judgment), the Priestess – represented by Jennifer Kale. Lilia claims that the Priestess can choose whether or not to use her Power. “She is passive, she has the knowledge, but she doesn’t express herself”, says Cris.

In house 5, the obstacle is with Agatha and the Three of Swords. “One of the saddest cards in the Tarot, a cut with pain, feeling betrayed”, continues Cris. “Mourning”, says Lilia.

And in house 6, where the unexpected is, Lilia draws The Tower but inverted. The Tower generally represents disaster, destruction, and sudden agitation. But, inverted, it “means miraculous transformation”, says Lilia.

The last card, that of Lilia’s destiny, is Death. In her case, literally, but, in general, in games, Death does not necessarily have this connection. Despite the drama of the series, this is the case. Revealing that Rio is Death, as we knew.

Lilia apparently saved everyone, but there is still something ahead. The Salem Seven are behind Agatha and Lilia stays behind and gives each one a message. To Agatha, she says “When she calls you a coward, tap in”. To Billy, she returns the spellbook he had lost. “How?”, he asks. “Magic”, she answers. And to Kale, who doesn’t want to go ahead, she says “You are the way forward”.

To eliminate the Seven, Lilia, who finally admits that she loved being a witch, reverses the game. She attracts the seven to the center of the table, where the swords are. By inverting the Tower, they reverse gravity. The witches are then killed by the swords that instead of the ceiling are on the floor. Lilia tries to hold on, but she falls too. It is the fall that opens the episode, but now her expression is one of peace.

In another dimension, with her Master, she begins her journey again. The credits are for the song Time in a Bottle, by Jim Croce, reinforcing the emotions of a perfect, exciting, and well-rounded episode. The perfect stage for Patti Lupone.
