Good news to close out 2024. After a new album by The Cure, the one who announced that she’s working on new material is none other than the brilliant Kate Bush.

The singer briefly mentioned that she was “very interested” in working on new music during an interview with the BBC, and with that, the whole world is already in an uproar. Kate is one of the most original artists of the last 50 years, without ever compromising her Art for profit. Millennials discovered her in Stranger Things, which used one of her hits, Running Up That Hill, in the 2022 season.

Kate Bush‘s last new album was released in 2011 and since she is extremely reclusive, curiosity only increases. The theme was the ultra-melancholic 50 Words for Snow, and the sound was intimate. Given everything we’ve been through in recent years and the singer’s pacifist commitment, we could anticipate something serious, but it’s just a guess.

For now, Kate is involved in promoting the black-and-white animated short Little Shrew, which uses one of the tracks from 50 Words for Snow, Snowflake. The profits from the film will go to the charity War Child.

When asked about what she’s been up to, she said that she’s been organizing her collection, “a lot of archival work,” as well as redesigning her website and putting together a book of lyrics. But since 2023, she feels ready to get back to composing.

“I’m really looking forward to starting work on a new album when I’m done. I have a lot of ideas and I’m really looking forward to getting back into this creative space, it’s been a long time,” she said.

The short film Snowflake will be available on Kate Bush‘s website and was the idea of ​​the singer, who worked with an illustrator to create a scenario partly inspired by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

The conflict, which shows no signs of ending, shocked Kate because it marked the end of a period of less warlike conflict (she calls it Peace, but the world has never been at Peace). “I think war is horrible for everyone, especially for civilians because they are so vulnerable in these situations. But for a child, it is unimaginable how scary it must be for them,” she said.
