Silo 2: Powerful Return and Terrifying Isolation

With 10 episodes in total, the second season of Silo 2 is at least four hours longer than usual and was able to take advantage of the full return episode with very little dialogue, which gives us back the feeling of isolation and anguish of the story that takes place in a not-so-distant future and with a completely inhospitable Earth.

Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) is alone and enters a new silo, one that we see in flashback has gone through a rebellion and inadvertently lost all the survivors who tried to get out to the outside world. Literally, EVERYONE. She finds herself alone and needs to use her creativity and intelligence to navigate the new environment. Alternating scenes from her youth with the current scenario, we see how well Juliette manages to deal with loneliness, and also how she learned to be a kind of McGiver.

With 50 minutes practically focused on her story – at least 10 minutes for her to jump over an improvised bridge, she tries to identify if there are any humans in this silo, because she hears noises and sees light, but apparently, she is alone.

I wish I could tell you more, but it is almost an hour of many dangerous situations and Juliette’s ability to find alternatives. Until she hears Moon River sung by Audrey Hepburn from somewhere and goes to the door where the sound comes from. In full-time with the song. We stop with Jules meeting the only apparent survivor of the silo. Solo (Steve Zahn), does not open the door for her and what’s more, warns that if she tries to get to him, he will kill her.

An episode that makes us think it was a great return, powerful even, even though we have no idea how things were in silo 18, from where Jules was expelled.

The series, based on Hugh Howey‘s dystopian novels, takes us to a future where an apocalyptic event has left the Earth’s surface uninhabitable. Centuries later, only 10,000 people remain, and they live in underground silos, terrified and accepting strict rules that demand unquestioning obedience. The capital punishment is exile, which means death within minutes.

Over time, some inhabitants began to question whether the images of the outside world that were being shown on the screens were false, and they also began to realize that the authorities were keeping some secrets. The world is indeed poisoned and impossible to survive, but there are many more silos and more survivors.

In this first episode, we do not know about Bernard (Tim Robbins), Meadows (Tanya Moodie), Martha (Harriet Walter), or Robert (Common) who manipulate Silo 18 to suppress a revolt like the one in Silo 17, in which everyone died. The story may seem overwhelming, but Silo is still a great hit. I really want to know more!
