The general public may not notice it, but The Day of the Jackal is one of the year’s best series. It has quality production, super actors like Lashana Lynch and Eddie Redmayne, an excellent update of the classic, and unexpected plot twists that only make us more anxious.

There are two stories within one: the original mission in Germany, which was successful, but the contractor wanted to trick the assassin, becoming the target of his revenge, and the current contract to kill a billionaire who will displease big fish and therefore has to be killed before revealing information that promises to change the world economy. Something like that doesn’t make much difference. As in the book, the series makes us admire Jackal’s perfectionist method and almost root for him, especially since he’s not about to kill war heroes, but greedy businessmen and politicians. On his tail is the excellent MI6 agent who is the only one who can be as disciplined and determined as he is.
There are only three episodes left, but we’re once again breathless and full of doubts. We saw that killing the DCU is more complex because MI6 is just seconds behind him, which makes planning even more complex. That’s why he needs help – which is dangerous because he’s good at always acting alone – and this is where the problem lies.
Using innocent people, Jackal is following his usual meticulous process and discipline always yields important information that allows him to constantly adjust the plan. Even more so, with such a small margin for error. All the pressure triggered his PTSD and we see how, by chance, he fell in love in Spain and is trying, at the end of the mission, to start his life over with his wife and daughter. Well… maybe even that plan has changed. That’s because, with his hidden cameras, he is already aware that things are going wrong in Cádiz: his brother-in-law is stealing his money and his wife is lying to him.

For now, he needs to eliminate MI6 and asks them to “get” Vince and Bianca off his trail, but, once again, they both escape alive. To make matters worse, a suspicious police officer helped create a composite sketch and now there is an image of him for everyone to use. Bianca knows he is an excellent makeup artist, but she already has two images as a basis.
At the lecture where UDC was supposed to be killed, we anxiously follow the tension until, when the Jackal is finally in position, two men go up on stage and shoot (missing the target and getting in the way of the Jackal). One of the men is dead and the other escaped. Jackal also escapes, but Bianca is so close to catching him that her focus is unlikely to shift to finding the sniper who got away. And the mystery is only growing! Who else wants to kill the DCU? Who is infiltrating MI6? And what will he do to his wife’s family?
