Colman Domingo and the crazy journey of disinformation in The Madness

Whether as a producer or actor, 2024 was just the first year in which we talked about Colman Domingo from beginning to end. Nominated for an Oscar as a Supporting Actor and already a favorite for Best Actor in 2025, he is the big star of the Netflix series The Madness, and once again: spot on.

In 10 episodes we follow the spiral of Muncie Daniels (Domingo), a media commentator who inadvertently becomes a suspect in a crime he did not commit and, while trying to unravel the mystery to clear his name, becomes involved in an even bigger conspiracy, with his own life and the lives of those closest to him at risk. The story is not new, but when it is well told, how it works! And that is the case here.

The Madness premiered somewhat quietly at the end of November, but it is worth rushing and devouring every second. It has been dominating the Netflix world rankings, even though many people consider it just an update of the classic The Fugitive. Really? Yes, it is, but since when has originality stopped us from enjoying something that is well done?

Yes, there is one thing. Now that we are getting used to the average of 8 episodes per season, having 10 was not exactly a relief and seemed to stretch the story unnecessarily, although it does not ruin it. Much of it is due to Colman Domingo‘s undeniable charisma as the protagonist. There are didactic moments in the dialogue, but that is part of it too.

I will not go into the plot in depth so that you can discover it without spoilers and because it is engaging because the suspect is never actually who you expect. There is room for a second season and the actor has already announced that he is willing to return, especially since the series, as he likes to point out, deals with several current issues.

“Muncie Daniels is sitting in a chair where he’s very centrist in his views, and he’s given this horror story of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and he has to go out into the world to figure things out. I’m a person who believes that you have to go out into the world, and you have to talk to other people and people who don’t believe what you believe to come to a new belief,” the actor explained to The Hollywood Reporter. “I felt like he’s on a journey that a lot of people need to go on right now to really sort through all of this misinformation, to really form allies, sometimes with people who you think you have nothing in common with. It’s really just the journey of an ordinary man who gets thrown into extraordinary circumstances,” he adds.

The Madness is definitely on my best of 2024 list. What about yours?
